Question
Arizona.
Every year our family tries to shop for competitive rates for family health insurance coverage. Otherwise, we are subject to excessive rate increases upon renewal of a current policy. We are too small to qualify for a group plan at work (not enough employees).
Our problem is that the new ins. companies seem to always have some exclusions/riders on me. They add additional premium for my husband because he smokes, but exclude me altogether for certain procedures. I have a history of kidney stones and female "issues" (that fortunately are not serious). I also got into a situation this summer after having a stroke and a hematoma after a doctor messed up a sinus surgery and I nearly died. My husband and I are pursuing legal remedies for that though, and expect to pay the ins. co. back for the monies expended for this situation.
I'd like to know if there are any decent non-group insurance carriers that would instead of excluding me due to prior claims, just increase our premium? However, I am not talking about an excessive premium increase because everybody's on a budget, but I am aware that ins. co.s are entitled to make a profit. Thanks!

My response:
This is a legal site, not an insurance referal service.

Answer
You're right. I was just curious since the last few months of my life have revolved around whether I'll even HAVE insurance after I got out of the hospital.
Sorry, and thank you.

Answer
If you dont want to face underwriting, exclusions, pre-ex waiting periods, etc then you need to stay with one carrier at least for 3 years. Otherwise you are going to get caught in a trap when a claim will not be paid, then all of your shopping will have been in vain.
