Question
What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? IL
Hello,
My dad's Power of Attorny(g/f of many years) stopped paying his share of the monthly cost of his nursing home..it went on for a # of months. The POA was then turned over to my cousin, who made a deal with the nursing home to pay what was owed.
I now find out that dad does still have his Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance- this was never looked into before and so was never used for his nursing home costs, etc.
I am looking into hiring a lawyer to get the money back from his g/f- the money that was supposed to go to the nursing home.(The POA is supposed to be turned over to me soon) She wrote out checks for herself and her son, etc. But I'm also wondering if there is any way we can get that money back from the nursing home(that my cousin paid), and will it be possible to get Blue Cross/Blue shield to pick up the bill from the time she(g/f) stopped paying the nursing home.

There are many aspects to your post. I am offering this simply from a speculative view. Although I don't claim to know every and any kind of BC/BS policy, I assume you mean health ins. If that is the case, the health ins policy is not likely to cover long term care in a nsg home. Most health ins policies will be based on medical necessity to restore a person to a previous state of health. Health ins is not usually intended to maintain a person in a constant state of health, such as a nursing home patient. What I mean by that is if an injury or illness reduces a person's level of wellbeing and that state can be treated, then health ins is a viable option. Ifa person is in a state that treatments will only sustain or maintain a state of health, then health ins will likely not pay.
