Co-Pay

Question
What is the name of your state? Michigan
If I supply insurance to a minor that is in custody of my ex-spouse and there is a copay to Dr. visits, do I have a legal responsibility to pay the copays? My ex has refused payment and now the my name has been turned over to collections.

Answer
Well, if he has legal custody then the custody papers should state who has to hold the insurance on the minor and possibly what financial responsbilities each party has. If it is specifically stated in the custody papers that the ex-spouse holds sole financial responsibility, then there you have it. The doctors office is going to hold whomever the guarantor is on file at their office responsible for the payment.

If you're the subscriber of the insurance, then as far as your insurance is concerned, you are legally responsible to pay any and all copayments due.
It is only if you have a court document that states otherwise that you're off the hook. If that is the case, daddy should be the guarantor
