Ciit AAdvantage Retenion offer : 5 miles for dollar on Everyday spending for 1 year

Question
I called yesterday to cancel my CITI AAdvatage card applied back in last May for 25000 miles signup bonus. I told the cancellation department that I want to cancel the card as Starwood card from AMEX is better for me as I can get 1.25 miles for dollar spent, And it has only 30 dollars annual fee.
The guy first offered me 50 dollar credit to my account, I refused that offer.
Then he said, he will talk to his manager to see if he can offer something better and came back with this offer -
5 miles ( 4 additional miles + 1 mile I already get) for dollar spent on Supermarkets, Drugstores and Gas station purchases for next 12 billing cycles with no maximum limit. The only limit is 100,000 miles yearly limit already set on the card.
I said o.k to this offer. Now I have to test to see if Walmart and Meijer supercenters count as Supermarkets.

That is the question. If so, not a bad offer.

What about Fairway Market in New York? Or Whole Foods?

I am sure Whole Foods counts as Supermarkets. If Fairway Market is like Kroger or Safeway it also should count as Supermarket

Answer
That's a great offer considering they did away with their Dividend's 5%. I don't believe Walmart Supercenters will count.

Fairway is a bit unique -- only a few branches. That's why I asked... perhaps it'll have to wait for someone to test it out first. I can't, since I wasn't targeted for the offer :(

Answer
Let us know how the Meijer-Walmart charges work out, I am coming up to my fee date and live in Michigan, where Meijer dominates, I sure would like to get that "bonus" for all my shopping here

Answer
This is capped at 5000 bonus miles wether they told you or not.

Answer
The Supermarkets (Kroger, Tom Thumb, etc.) and Drug Stores (CVS) around me sell Gift cards to everything from I-tunes, Home Depot, movie theatres, and lots of other places. If you get 5miles/$ for puchasing the gift cards, you could rack up the miles. If you have ready cash, but you could use the miles near term, you could stock up on gift cards....just watch any expiration dates.
I credit Gary's FreeFrequentFlyerMiles.com for the idea.
