Question
I was a bit surprised to find out earlier tonight that Citcards (specifically Citicard AAdvantage Mastercard) has tracked my total lifetime spending.
As participants in various airline forums already know, some airlines will give you a benefit after reaching a certain lifetime milestone. American, for example, will make you AAdvantage Gold for the life of the program when your lifetime mileage hits 1 million and Platinum for life when you hit 2 million. There are a couple of other benefits as well. (In case anyone is interested, see the thread, "AAdvantage Million Miles Multiples Benefits" http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=576276)
Will Citicard give you anything of value when your lifetime spending hits $1,000,000?
Answer
They'll probably double the number of unsolicited credit card applications that you receive through the mail.

However, when it comes time for your annual fee, you may have an easier time getting them to waive it.

So freaking true....I get at least 2-3/day from citi....
all I have is the Chairman Card and the Business PP....
Answer
Simple answer: no
Some customers spend that much a month - it depends on the portfolio but $1MM is not unusual.
Like the OP said above, you may have better luck getting a retention bonus but otherwise, nada.
Out of curiousity, where did you see your lifetime spend total?
Answer
After 4MM+ in lifetime spend on my AAdvantage/Citi card, and subsequent effectively abandoning the Citibank AAdvantage card (due to AA's milesaaver capacity control implementation, which is a stealth capacity control making domestic 25K awards barely available), I can tell you Citi apparently could care less.
You might think I would be targeted w/ a double miles promo when my spend goes from 7 figures to zero in an abrupt stop tryying to seduce me back to active use of this card. Nope. CEO of Citi didn't call me; no one offered me a yacht trip in New York harbor (like DHL does for my buddy in SF, CA... they take him in SF Harbor on sailing outings). Geez - Citi didn't send me a b-day card like SWA airlines does. Nada.
So, Nada for Citi for future spend. Nothing personal, and I realize my spend is a rounding error in their 10-figure credit card business :)
With all seriousness, Citi (and indirectly AA) do not notice $5 vs $5MM in my experience, except for AA's issuance of e-VIPs for every crossing of 1MM threshold (and the 1MM GOLD and 2MM lifetime PLAT benefits). Not much value there anymore.

You can avoid junk mail credit card promotions from all companies, not just Citi, by opting-out of pre-approved credit solicitations. This opt-out is sponsored by the three credit agencies:
888.5OP.TOUT
or
888.567.8688
I opted-out not only to avoid junk mail accumulation, but also to prevent leaving credit card applications sitting in my mailbox for an ID thief to prey upon.
