AAA Card to raise Foreign Transaction Fee after April 30th.

Question
If you do not already have a AAA credit card you need to apply for one now. All applicants after April 30th will be charged 2%. Applicants before that date will be charged only 1%.

Answer
I believe BofA policies are going into effect then. The crappy thing about that is that the TC's are now going to be cash advances instead of purchases - I just got the letter in the mail. It was good deal while it lasted - gotta buy another $4100 in TC's before April 30th to top off my account!

Are AAA Travelers Checks, AAA Gift Cards, and Foreign Currency considered purchases now on this card? Exactly what changes will go into effect on April 30?

Answer
Are you saying that the Travelers Checks count as purchases on the AAA card? What other cards count TC as purchases? I might have one of those.

Is this feature going away on April 30?

Answer
Currently, the AAA MBNA (now BofA) Visa gives you points for TC's as they're treated as purchases & not cash advances. This is applicable to the AAA Visa for the MidAtlantic area (DC/MD/VA - location code 212 for Hertz CDP's) - but not all AAA locations (for example, an FTer in California wasn't able to get this to post as a purchase, but as a cash advance instead). In the Washington/MidAtlantic AAA area, one would get points for TC purchases, so if you bought 5K in TC's, you got 5K in points, which converted to 75.00 Hertz certs or could be used towards AAA travel or AAA approved autorepairs (the best benefit - I saved 700 bucks on bodywork on my car with this benefit). That benefit/loophole willl be closed starting May 1st.
