Has Continental ever offered their MC for no annual fee?

Question
I'm always getting offers from them for their MC, but I have a hard time forking over an annual fee after getting spoiled getting free cards from AA and UA.

Answer
The way I see it, you just EBay the 2 President's Club passes and that covers over 1/2 the fee right there.

Is there even a market for them on eBay? I did a quick search and nothing came up... that usually means you won't sell it for anything meaningful. ;)

Answer
They're worth between $25-40:

You're good for well over 1/2 the annual fee, and it takes two seconds to just drop these in an envelope to ship out.

Answer
Consider the no annual fee AMTRAK card, and then transferring your points to Continental miles.

What we need is another purported platinum offer...

Does the Amtrak earn and convert the same as a CO card?

This card has been discontinued by MBNA/FIA/BOA. A new Amtrak card will be offered by a new issuer later this April, supposedly.
drbond: It used to allow you to convert on a 1:1 basis to CO miles, but I think it was limited to 25k miles converted per year.

"Purported." Man, that was a fun week or two here.

Answer
CO MC did offer it once - but it was a mistake. Another FTer had alerted me to it about a year & a half ago & I applied. The next day, they had corrected their website. It took faxing in print screens of the website (which thankfully, I had taken at the advice of the other FTer) to get them to remove the annual fee. You can do the no-annual fee option which is 1 mile for ever $2 spent.
I was going to suggest using the SPG Amex, but I just checked & they do a 2:1 conversion rate. That's pretty bad...
As for the CO Pres club passes, there's a market for them on eBay. ;)

Answer
Thanks for the heads up. Do you know if the 2 for 1 fee-free continental card offers a sign-up bonus? That's mostly what I'm after.

Answer
Try this site: FreeFrequentFlierMiles.com (http://www.freefrequentflyermiles.com/index.htm) They have up to date info on all these things.

But you don't get the passes until you pay your 2nd anuual fee at the 12 month mark, right? That's two $85 fees for two passes.

Answer
Depending on how large of bank/brokerage blance you have with Chase they will waive annual for UAL/BA/CO credit cards.
The same is true for BOA and Citi, US West, Key Bank and most other banks who also issue milage credit cards.

Good to know. How does that usually work? Did you call them up to ask?

Depending on the bank the requirement is different for each.
Citibank is $100K
Chase and BOA are $250K (this is soft limit personal banker can choose to waive it with less if he wants)
Key Bank is $100K
US Bank is $50K

Answer
Actually Chase kind of offers a free card with around a 1 to 1 ratio. Its the Chase +1 student visa. You technically don't need to be a student to get one but 6000 points can be transfered into 5000 BA, CO or UA miles. What really makes the deal sweet is you get a 25 dollar amazon gift cert just for applying. It might not be the best earning's ratio of 1.2 = 1mile but for free I cant complain.
