CITI possible problems & Potential Pitfalls to avoid w/ TY points Thread

Question
We have a l-o-n-g thread started by a well intentioned new member of our community who did not realize that flight points needed to be offset by spend points.
I , and most FT'er were aware of this requirement.

But that long thread has raised some other very real issues, that most FT'ers maynot be aware of. (I researched the program throughly and I learned some disturbing things from the above thread.)
My concern is that other Flyertalkers when they read the first post and see that the initial issue was that flight points were not being converted immediately into redeemable TY points without the requisite , offsetting spending will STOP READING THE THREAD. The thread has important info.
I will summarize it here.
I'll credit the FT'er who shared the valuable info.
I thought we could post matters of potential concern here that may arise in the future.
I have avoided inflammatory language like "scam". The OP above being completely unfamiliar with their new program does not constitute that Citi has committed a "Scam". In fact while I am far from a Citi Apologist and I don't provide them corporate cover, that thread title was unfortunate as it was unfair to Citi.
Rather, If we can share with each the tightly guarded program info. then we can all be proactive consumers who maximize this intriguing new program within the rules.Let's know the pitfalls, the gotchas, the quirks and arcadic rules BEFORE it costs us our desired award
It's not started with the intention of being a "CITI SUCKS" thread or "They scammed me thread" Or "What's better Citi or Amex Thread"
I'm hoping that its a helpful thread that empowers FT'ers[B] who are either active members in TY or want to learn more about TY[ /B] to maximize program value by being savvy consumers. But how about balanced?
