Question about "double dipping" on TYN card usage

Question
Sorry for this question because I know it's been addressed before but I can't find it with a search. If I buy an airline ticket with a PP Elite card on, for example, UA, do I get both TY points equivalent to the actual mileage flown AS WELL AS the UA miles flown added to my UA Mileage Plus total, assuming I enter my MP number with the reservation? In other words, am I able to double-dip in this fashion on all my flights when I use my PP Elite card?

Answer
Absolutely yes

Answer
In addition to the FF miles and PP flight points, if you book on Expedia, you get "extra" purchase points from Expedia. You have to register your TYN account with Expedia first, but they are now a TY merchant and give 1 point/$ (as merchant points) for any purchase on Expedia over $50.
So you essentially get 2 pts/$ on the purchase price, plus the flight points, plus your FF miles. Not bad at all.

Answer
Yes this is what makes the PP card the best reward CC out there IMO.

Answer
... double-dip in this fashion on all my flights when I use my PP Elite card?
Flight Points are a simple marketing gimmick. Citi does not benefit if you use their card to purchase an airline ticket rather than a sofa, and the airline does not know or care about Thank You rewards. The strategy is that a cardholder who accumulates Flight Points will be more likely to use the card for other purchases rather than "waste" the Flight Points.
It's classic loyalty marketing that we can use to our advantage if we predetermine how we are most likely to redeem Thank You points and assign a value to the points versus those offered by other cards.

Best to read the Terms & Conditions to understand the significant restrictions. Purchasing only an airline ticket on Expedia will not earn Merchant Points...
Exclusions
The following travel items are not eligible to earn ThankYou Points:
Stand-alone rental cars
Rental cars not part of a vacation package
Activities and services totaling less than $50 (unless part of a vacation package)
Stand-alone flights
Flight + rental car

Thank you all very much for your good information. I thought the double-dipping was correct but just wanted to make sure. I have the PP Elite and am about to get the Diamond Preferred for the 5 points per $1 for gas, drugs and groceries in the first year so I'm looking forward to matching those purchase points with a few long trips.

If I understand you right, you hope to match flight points with your purchase points from the Diamond Preferred card? I don't think you can do that- you can only match the flight points to the purchase points you earn with the PP card.
I have the Diamond Preferred card as well and think it's a great card, but you can't do that with it.
I just use my PP everywhere I can't get 5 points with the Diamond Preferred.
My spending now:
Restaurants: AMEX Costco True Earnings: 3% cash back.
Gas/Grocery/Drugstore: Diamond Preferred, 5 TY points
Everywhere else: PP, 1 TY pt + 1 flgith pt = 2 TY pts.

even better: use Citi Proefssional at restaurants and get 3% Thank You Points back. Everything flows to the same TY account to increase your purchasing power.

The Citi Professional card is great, 3x points for car rentals and office supply stores (in addition to restaurants). Also, 15,000 TYN point bonus with no annual fee ^

Answer
OK, now I AM confused. Are you saying it is NOT the case that the 5 TY points you get in using the Diamond Preferred card count as purchase points and can thus be matched with flying points that you get from using the PP Elite card? For example, I spend $1000 using my Diamond Preferred card and accrue 5000 TY points. I thought these would count as purchase points. I match these purchase points by using my PP Elite card to purchase a ticket for a 5000 mile RT. Do I not then have a total of 10K TY points that I can use to begin my total needed to purchase a ticket? I thought I finally had this TY thing figured out but perhaps not. What say thee, TYN experts?

Yes, the flight points earned on your PP card must be matched by purchase points earned on that same card. You can't match it using a different card.
On the other hand, points from all your cards can get pooled into 1 just TYN account.
It essentially means that your Diamond card gives you 5% cash back and your PP 2% (if you buy enough plane tickets, for anybody). This is assuming you redeem for gift cards. Redeeming for flights is typically a better value, sometimes up to twice as much.

Where can I get 15,000 pts? I only see 10,000 on Citi's website.
