Continental Presidential Plus MasterCard vs Amex Platinum

Question
Did any one get this card? can you post your experience with it? How does it compare to the Amex Platinum? I generally use Delta / United as my main carier and Emirates (to india/Dubai allows me to earn miles on CO/united/Delta. I am located in Boston).

Between Amex platinum personal and business which one is better? I was thinking of one the amex plats / or this + United Chase Visa

Hey Many thanks, I finally opted for the United Visa and Amex platinum. Continental was just too new to know the exact details. Thanks to a few industrious people there is a whole manual here on amex plat!!

Answer
I submitted my application online and was then told I'd get a response in 30 days. When I called back the next morning, my application was not in the system, nor could the person even find this card as existing!
I will say, however, that I am greatly disappointed with the CO Presidential Plus in that unlike the regular black CO World MC, you do not get travel coupons.
I definitely hope I get this United card and I am looking forward to using my Platinum AMEX Delta Sky Miles card.

May it was not registered or some thing ... i always get various responses from chase CSRs ... wait a couple of days and try again. I got the United card and also the miles (at the end of the first statement).
CO card is just an ordinary card issued with the club membership and nothing else. SO ... i guess it is of less value .. than the black CO card. THat is one of the reasons why did not choose it .
Even if you put ina second application (use another link) ... then only one will be considered. ( iguess you will have another credit report pulled at most .. all though it is unlikely)

Answer
I got this credit card, and it's a piece of crap. They advertise that you get "Elite Access", and you get *some* of the perks of Elite Access, but not all. You get priority baggage, priority check-in, priority security, and priority boarding. But no premium seats and no upgrades. As a former Silver, I never got upgrades anyway, but the lack of a premium seat option REALLY SUCKS. Just tried to book a IAH-SFO flight on a 757, there's a whopping ONE NON-PREMIUM SEAT open, a middle seat in the back row, while easily 20 premium seats sit open. They must reserve half the coach cabin for these premium seats.
I'm so pissed with Continental over this that I wrote a letter and am actively thinking of moving to another airline (any other airline). The lack of disclosure is shameful.

Answer
Nowhere in the cards marketing material does it say that you get free upgrades or premium seating. You are just having unreasonible expectations. And they DO disclose everything. What do you get from the Continental Presidential Plus MC:
-lounge access
-Elite Access (which if you read the marketing materials and terms and conditions says you get preferred boarding, check-in, security lines, etc.)
-DOUBLE miles on many well-used categories
the only thing that you don't get that the other card (the black one) DOES give you is some almost worthless travel certs, and the many perks that you DO get with this card far outways that one difference anyway

Sounds like full disclosure to me. If you knew you wanted free upgrades or priority seating with the card but knew you wouldn't get them, what right do you have to be mad about not getting a perk that was never promised or even alluded to when you first applied for the card?

Frankly, if you travel frequently on Delta I would recommend the following strategy:
1. Fidelity AMEX Platinum if you can still get it (only $320 per year)
2. Delta AMEX Platinum - 2:1 miles for $ spent on drug/grocery/gas/wireless/hardware, plus up to $20k bonus QUALIFYING miles per year. You get the card for $80 if you have a green/gold/platinum/black AMEX
#2 is a sure winner.
The only downside to the AMEX Platinum is that it is only valid at Delta clubs when you are flying Delta. (The same is true of CO.) If that is a big issue consider:
a. A real Priority Pass membership: It now includes ALL Delta clubs, some CO, and some UA.
b. The Blue Continental Card - CO membership also gets you into DL clubs
c. Buying a DL or CO club membership. If you have status, this would be a cheaper option.

The whole point is that I didn't know that I wouldn't be getting these perks.
From a legal standpoint, you are right, they give everything they promise, but nothing more.
Elite is a caste system. What you get with one level of Elite is less important than what you don't get. Which is why in the interest of "full disclosure", Continental provides website users with the following handy table (http://www.continental.com/web/en-US/content/onepass/elite/default.aspx). If Chase had provided such a table in their documentation, I'd have chucked the offer in the trash can. Caveat emptor.

Answer
for someone without CO status, who flys CO, this card (CO Pres Plus MC) would be good.

The point of the thread was a comparison between AMEX Platinum and the Blue CO World Mastercard
