Citi Card was to much work GOOD BUY

Question
So I got the citi card premier pass about 2 months ago. They gave me a 10k limit. I called them and explained this was not enough so they put in a request for a larger credit line. They told me to send in financials etc.. So I was working on that with my accountant and in the meantime I was charging my card 3-4k at a time when I reached 9k I paid it off and waited. They said 24 hours to clear payment it took 72. No problem I was still patient.
UNTIL!
They denied a payment to a vendor 3 times!!! All 3 times the same merchant and I called in 2 times the third time I was like im out. Im trying to be nice and earn a larger balance while im getting the requested documents..
To top it off the lady is like "you would like to cancel?" "yes" she says "ok card cancled have a nice day"
No i was not rude in anyway I was very nice just told her the issue and the reason I really wanted to cancel is that she could NOT transfer me to the Security department I had to call in myself!!! .... that
So no chairman card for me ill still with amex.
thanks

Answer
So basically you decided not to give the Chairman card a try becauseyou had a bad experience with PP Elite which is a 75/yr card....
again, you get what you pay for.....
good luck with AMEX....

Answer
I've just had to do a bunch of thread cleanup, editing out profanity ... deleting sarcastic and rude comments, and deleting posts quoting and commenting on those comments.
Please stick to the topic, which is a discussion of Citi PremierPass, implications for Chairmans card if any, and the original poster's experiences. Please no profanity or snarky comments on grammar.
And if you find a post or reply to be problematic, insulting, etc. please don't quote the insult and comment on it -- that just contributes to the problem. Instead please hit the report post (exclamation point inside a red triangle) button on the post that is a concern to you.

He will have better luck with Amex.
I do have the $400 Citi card and I don't get what I pay for.
With Amex, I get MORE than I pay for.
Citi Service can not hold a candle to Amex service. Period.

Answer
I disagree, writetorich. I have the AMEX Gold Rewards Plus ($150,) and I've always gotten MUCH better service with my Citi cards, even my student cards ($0.) My FIA Charles Schwab card ($0) gives better service than AMEX and Citi. Individual experiences will vary.

Answer
I've been really happy with my Citi customer service for the PP card. Better than any other CC I have (though I don't have Amex)

Answer
bump for op to explain bad service equalling a good buy. I would never buy anything with bad service. Currently amex gold and lovin it.

Answer
This isn't really a customer service issue, it has to do with the cardholder's credit limit and it does not sound as if the OP ever spoke to a Citi credit analyst. If I needed a substantially higher limit and Citi not only would not authorize it but seemed anxious to close my account, I would be scrutinizing my credit reports closely to see what they see. Large issuers don't make these decisions on the basis of personality, there's something amiss.

Answer
I have been a Citibank customer for approx 10 years. My experience has been:
1. Lower initial credit limits than MBNA (i.e. 50%)
2. Comparable initial credit limits to AMEX
3. Very slow to increase credit in comparison to MBNA. However Citi will issue additional cards.
4. Higher limits than Chase
Citi has been very responsive and fair in dealing with various issues over the 10 years. After increasing my interest rate once due to a late payment, they later decreased it upon my request.
The biggest challenge that I had with Citibank was opening a checking account. They were very adamant about calling and reaching me on my home number to verify the account. That was a bit of a challenge when I was working between 4 cities at the time. In fact it took over a month.
As for the OP... It may be that they saw something on the OPs credit report that they did not like for example high credit balance (even if the card is paid off each month). Perhaps they did not want to extend substantial credit until they knew the OP better. All of the companies have their own formulas, analytic methods, and analyst personalities.
Over the past 2 years I have been approved for $11k by AMEX, then $25k by MBNA, then $11k by Citi, then $30k by MBNA, then $17k by AMEX. Who knows why... I have no credit blemishes in the last 7 years and zero balances on my cards. I do have 20 credit inquires, but who's counting :)
Frankly I had a similar experience to the OP when I got an AMEX green card 15 years ago. They wouldnt let me charge a $100 without calling my mother first. (That was a joke, but it was a real pain.)

Yep.
large financial companies are comprised of lots and lots and lots of individual analysts.
Remember, the FT mandra!
If you don''t like what you are hearing, politely end the call in an unremarkable fashion ( so as not to get your account noted or flagged) and simply call back.
This is not only good advice for Airlines and hotels.
It applies to banks as well.
But back to Plat. Pizza- you are better of with Amex!!!
If you have non chairman citi product , be prepared for inconsistent service.
And just between us Amex lovers -- Chairman ain't much better.

I am new to flyertalk and I am sure I have already made spelling and grammar mistakes. However, every time I read this thread's title I am annoyed. Is it possible for you to correct the two misspelled words in this eight word title...please?
"to" should be "too"
"BUY" should be "BYE"

Answer
I have found Citi to be acceptable. I have a no annual fee AE and find the service there great. I find Citi to have the lowest credit limits and very slow at increasing them. What has worked for me is to apply for a couple of cards close them and fold the credit line onto my AAdvantage or PPelite. My AE and Chase cards have much, much higher limits.
