TY rewards question-AGAIN !-Sorry !

Question
I am considering Premier card and still cant understand redemption rules for flights. If I want to redeem TY points for a flight-say 30K do 1/2 of them have to be flight points and 1/2 of them purchase points? I charge 15-20K per year, but only fly once a year for vacation to caribbean, so getting "fly points" will be tough

Answer
no....the flight and purchase points all get deposited together in your TY number...which is totally separate from your cc number...
so once your points are transferred to TY, there is not separation between flight and purchase...

Answer
The restriction is that "no more than" 50% of your Thank You points are Flight Points. This is a maximum, no minimum. However, I am curious why you would choose this particular card if you only fly once a year?

Answer
I agree with MIA... This card is not a good match for you based upon the information that you provided. You would be better served by:
Citi Diamond - 5 pts/$ for 1 year on select spending
Citi Professional - 3 pts/$ on select spending
You should look for cards that will give you 1.25 pts/$ or more. If you rarely fly, you will probably not earn more than 1 pt/$ on most of your spending with Citi Premier Pass.

Answer
thanks everyone! I had ruled out the premier pass, but the more I read here the more it looked like I could get that "free" flight easier than on the aawards points I get for my citi aa gold card in fact this year I could not get one at all, I am going to start earlier this year and try some of the "pointers' that other FT people gave me in another post- Hope to "score 2 FF seats next Feb for the Caribbean. Am also considering the Starwood AMX card for the 25% bonus when I move points to AA.

We aren't trying to discourage you from choosing a Thank You network card, just asking why you would choose the PremierPass rather than one of the other Thank You cards which are eligible for the same Fixed Flight Option awards. The PremierPass rewards flying while other Thank You cards may be better for other spending patterns.
Currently, ThankYou Members with the following Sponsor Accounts are eligible: Citi PremierPass® Card, Citi PremierPass® Card –Elite Level, Citi® Diamond Preferred® Reward Card, Citi SimplicitySM Rewards Card, Citi ProfessionalSM Card with ThankYouSM Network, CitiBusiness PremierPassSM Card, CitiBusiness® Card with ThankYouSM Network, AT&T Universal Rewards Card, Citi® Platinum Select® Card with ThankYouSM Network, Citigroup Chairman® Card and Citi® Driver's Edge® Card. This Sponsor Account list is subject to change without notice.

Answer
Thanks!! I guess I didnt realize there were so many other options. Am I right in assuming that I could POSSIBLY get a flight to the caribbian Feb 2008 with 25k TY points if I start 330 days ahead of time? and stay 14-17 days and use the call-in fixed flight option, easier than the crap-shoot I go thru w/AAawards for 30K?

Answer
on another line, if the TY card is easier to get seats with-
which TY card would be good in my situation-wife & myself charge 15-20K per year, dont ever carry a balance over and take the once a year trip to the Caribbean?

It depends, what do you spend that 15-20K on?

25,000 TY points is the redemption level required for a domestic US coach class ticket, you would need 40,000 points for a Fixed Flight Option award to the Caribbean. "Take advantage of our fixed flight option by calling a ThankYou Network Travel Specialist, toll-free. You will always get a ticket on the date you want to travel - if a seat is available."
This means you do not need to call 330 days ahead, you can book as little as 14 days ahead and they will buy you a ticket unless every flight is sold out in your class of service. However, they will buy you the least expensive ticket available from your origin to your destination on your date. The earlier you call the higher the probability that you will have a choice of carriers, times and routings, and won't end up making a muti-connection journey with long layovers.
I strongly encourage you to read the Thank Your points FAQ about Flight Rewards...
https://www.thankyounetwork.com/faq.jspx
...with particular attention to the distinction between the Variable and Fixed Flight Options. The Variable option that can be booked online is nothing special, there are substantially similar programs available from American Express, Diners Club, Merrill+ VISA. The Fixed Flight Option is the one we are discussing, and it can only be redeemed by telephone.

Answer
illinidude or others...
we charge everything-phone,internet,gas,groceries,paypal, etc,ANYTHING that can be charged on a card is charged.

Answer
MIA, thanks for the link, I have searched the site and even called the CSR and couldnt find the answers you have provided. Even tho the points are higher than AA FF miles I think that they would be easier to accumulate to qualify for that "free" seat.

Answer
It may be helpful to understand that Thank You network is a relatively young program, and Citi fine tuned it during 2006. In particular they changed the agency they used for booking travel awards, adjusted the redemption levels and added the Variable Flight Option. Every program changes, often with little or very short notice.
Do you know (approximately) how much your tickets to the Carribbean would cost if you paid for them? This would help you compare Thank You to other credit card award programs.

Answer
You can see a page listing all TY-point earning accounts here:

I think Driver's Edge is a nice general option. 6% on groceries/gas/drug stores for the 1st year, 3% thereafter (can convert rewards dollars to TY points). Somewhat analogous to PremierPass in that you can also earn bonus points for driving (by sending in service statements from your primary vehicle).

Answer

comes out to approx 0.0195 pts per $ -- not great, but liveable with...Citi values typ at 0.01 .. so you are ok with that redemption....
on the other hand....once you get addicted to FT and travelling....you might want to start visiting other places...and then get a card that offers 2 for 1 tickets...
EXAMPLE: I got 2 First class tickets to Grand Cayman from AA for $1900for both my wife and me thru the companion ticket program...
