Question
In 2006 I encountered my first tough bout in obtaining seats using my accumulated air miles with both Alaskan Air and Hawaiian. I'm wondering about changing credit cards (where most of my miles originate) but would like some feedback on just how successful using Capitol One miles has been??? Thanks.
Answer
Welcome to FlyerTalk :) As a new member here, you may want to take a few minutes to become familiar with the various forums here, as the Talk Board forum has nothing to do with credit cards.
The FT credit card forum might be a good place to start:

Answer
As Tom indicated, the Talkboard Topics Forum is not the place to be discussing credit cards. Heck, we do not even give points/miles for posts in this forum... :)
I am going to move this into the Other Credit Cards Forum.

In its current incarnation, Capital One is not such a great deal. At least in my experience, you earn 1.25 miles per $ spent. But you have to redeem in tiers: e.g., 15,000 miles for any ticket priced $150 or less; 35,000 miles for any ticket priced $151-$350, etc. Thus, it's hard to do better than 1 cent per mile in redemptions. (E.g. a $250 ticket would require 35,000 miles--not a good deal.)
If you don't want an airline card, I would suggest using a cash back card that guarantees at least 1% cash back and not worry about accruing miles on Capitol One.
Answer
Citi PremierPass is a much better deal than capital one. If you are flying a lot, $12,500 of spending (12,500 spend pts + 12,500 flight pts) can earn you a free rt domestic ticket that would cost 60,000 capital one points or more (see the TY redemption thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?p=5753909#post5753909))
