Question
So I just got my new Citi Premier Pass Elite card. My purchase points will never equal my flight points (I don't spend enough), so purchase points are at a premiem to me. If I start making purchases with the card today and don't fly for a couple months, will all my purchase points from day 1 activate an equal number of future flight points or must purchase points be earned after you already have flight points in the account?
This makes a difference since I'll just use my EmigrantDirect 1.4% cash back card for 'regular' purchases that I can't otherwise earn a higher % rewards on such as gas, groceries, etc if my PP purchase points won't be useful until I accumulate flight points.

.
Yes.
the flights and purchases need not be within the same month.
Answer

I think you can buy either 30,000 points a year orany amount upto your 'excess' flight points.
The pricing for TY point purchases may seem high.
But if you are purchasing to 'free up' segregated, restricted flight points then you are getting access to a flight point for every purchased point. Effectively "2 for 1".
For example your annual spend is $4000.
You flew 54000 miles.
I believe you can buy 50,000 ty points that would increase your available TY balance by 100,000.

the 15k bonus points are matchable with flight points, too.
but at any rate, yes, the flight and purchase/bonus/merchant points 'wait' for each other.

I just gave the Thankyou website a look and you can buy up to 30,000 TY points at a cost of $25 per thousand. So if you double this and add the 50 points you'd earn if you put the points on the PP card you get 2050 points for $25 or $.0122 per point. I suppose that could be worthwhile for the right flight reward especially since I'm in DTW and it's often difficult to get cheap flights to many locations from here. For example I will need an open jaw to Africa in the future (overland safari) and 80,000 TY points is a steal for that.

open jaws not permitted with fixed point option.
