Question
I just got the UA MP Chase Platinum Visa card and I can't stand the look of it. For those who haven't seen it, it is grey with a purple, blue, and teal splotch in the center. A plane was placed in the blue. I guess it is supposed to be the sky (or maybe water), but it is just ugly.
Called Chase and they say there is no alternate design. Oh well.
So my question is, does anyone else consider this card to be VERY ugly?
Answer
No neede to worry. . .they are slowly replacing that ugly design with a more trendy gray card with a white tulip united logo on the top. I got my new card after using my existing card for a couple months. . .yours will be on its way soon, I'm sure.
And yes, that is the ugliest card I have ever seen!

Wirelessly posted (MOT-V3/0E.41.C3R MIB/2.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)
It looks like the old MP Visa from ca. 2000.

Bizarre. I got my Chase Platinum card last March, and I got the new design then. I think it is actually one of the nicest Visa designs I have ever seen (although of course I am somewhat partial to the UA logo!).
Maybe it is worth "losing it" and calling to ask them to send you a new one?

That is weird. I just got the card last Saturday (8 days ago). Other than "i lost it" are there any other plausible reasons they should send me a new card considering this one is only one week old?
Thanks.

If you say you lost it, then you will have to deal with the hassle of canceling the card, etc. Why don't you say it was demagnetized? Easy enough, right? Not out of your possession so they don't have to worry about fraudulent use.
But in the end, does it really matter how the card looks? I guess they are changing the look of the SPG Amex and are replacing everyone's card-- probably to avoid the "platinum" confusion, right?

Three days ago I received the ugly card and call to CSR. They told my this was platinum card, and it is not signature card. Because my credit line was not high enough. But the annuel fee was 60 yet. Was the CSR said correct?

I have had my plat signature card since January, and mine is all grey except for the United logo in the upper right hand corner. I am not thrilled with it, but it does the job. But, I do like the flashier card designs
Answer
I just got sent a replacement for one of my non-Signature cards (the ugly one you describe) without requesting it. The new design looks almost identical to the Signature card - only difference is the absence of the "Visa Signature" stripe below the account number, and the color of the card is a bit different (lighter silver). So, it seems help is on the way - I expect they will send out lots of unsolicited replacements to push the new Chase branding (they did the same a while ago for BA Visa cards).

I actually like the look of the front quite a bit. I do think Citi has better card designs though (although I don't care for the AAdvantage card much). Perhaps it is the non-plain black mag stripe on the back.
Don't have a plat chase card (only visa sig) so not sure exactly what the OP is talking about, without seeing it.

Can someone please post a picture of what it looks like? This thread is worthless without a picture! :D

The platinum class card is a lot greyer than the picture shows. Probably same color of grey as the old livery on the aircraft

The old "Platinum" Visa:

The new design:
http://img171.imageshack.us/my.php?image=newplatvh4.jpg
As you can see, the new one is very similar to the Signature card, lacking only the "Visa Signature" stripe under the number.
By way of comparison, old Sig design:

new Sig design:
http://www.firstusa.com/xcards4/ccards/united_signature_21k_afw/images/753B.jpg
From the terms on the Sig card app:
"First we will review your credit history and income to determine if you qualify for a Signature card. If you do not, you will be considered for a Platinum card without the no pre-set spending limit feature. If you qualify for the Platinum card, we will also review your credit history and income to determine your credit line."
The "Platinum" seems to carry the same United benefits (bonus signup miles, upgrade and discount certs, etc) but slightly different credit benefits ("Signature" allows spending above the credit line in some cases, includes some concierge feature, etc; "Platinum" does not). The annual fee and other terms seem to be the same.
Not to be confused with the "Platinum Class Visa Signature" (http://www.firstusa.com/cgi-bin/webcgi/webserve.cgi?mkid=6P69&partner_dir_name=united_signature_3_20k&page=cont), which is an entirely different product with a higher annual fee, different earning ratios, etc.
could they make this any more arcane?
Answer
The ugliest part is Visa's new logo which is blahhhh. :td:

I just got my new one yesterday (Visa Signature) and don't think its that bad.
I do think the new NWA Visa Signature (http://www.worldperksvisa.com/cgi_w/cfm/wpv/personal/index.cfm?PromoID=www.worldperksvisa.com) card is great.

I personally like the Continental World MC design:

It seems inspired by the AmEx Centurion Card (a/k/a the "Black Card").
According to a U.S. Bank CSR whom I spoke with, they're going to use up some of the old-design card stock before switching to the new NWA Visa Signature design on December 1st. Also, he told me about a woman who called in to request the Signature card, but complained about the black color and asked for something that looked more prestigious... he had to explain the whole "black card" thing to her.
Anyway, my NWA Visa Signature expires at the end of next month (i.e., December 31st), and I was told that my new card should be pressed and sent to me around December 10th, so I should have one of the first new-design cards issued.

When are the new ones rolling out? I got my platinum last month and it's still the old design.

I seem to recall reading in a post that United waves the annual fee if you are 1K. Does anyone know if that is really true?

Same color as a 1K card.
Answer
Okay so black is the new black and monochrome is the new black too, based on all of the votes for the NWA, CO and UA cards. Is the recently issued US Airways MasterCard headed in the wrong direction? I thought the plane looked sharp but maybe I'm in the minority here?
Sorry..can't find a great pic but two options to view:
http://www.usairwaysmastercard.com/
http://www.usairways.com/awa/content/dividendmiles/earnmiles/creditcards.aspx
The 2nd link gives you a dimunitive view of the "black" Visa Signature and MasterCard side by side. Should I have picked my card for the cool black look instead of the 2 year fee waiver I got instead? :)
Answer
Back in my college days I really liked the United College Plus Visa design. I got many compliments on it from my peers. Every time I pulled it out the design justified why I used the card...to take vacations.
If only I could have the island design, but get the points of a regular United card.
Answer
I just got my Platinum Class replacement. I must say that aside from Visa's logo, it looks a lot better than the original platinum class.
This is the second time this year that Chase has changed the design of my cards and issued replacement. The first was with my Continental World MC, and the new one is ugly!
