Some people just get lucky and are targeted for a special offer. Maybe you have not used the card much and it is their way of trying to get you to use the card more.
Do you have to call to activate the offer or is it a statement that "If you haven't used your card yet, activate it now - call 1-800-436-XXXX." If the later, I assume that if the card has been activated, you don't need to call.

Answer
It was a double miles offer for the next 2-3 months, but I had to call to activate it. It appeared as a big you-must-click-past ad when I logged into my account on the web. I just couldn't figure out why you couldn't sign up online... it's almost like they want to sell you something!

Answer
Here's the text---
From Oct 1 through Dec. 29 3006,
earn double miles for every eligible dollar above $100 in any of these combined categories. Just use your United Mileage Plus personal credit card.
Gasoline, Groceries, Resaurants, Department Stores.
Call 1-888-605-9584 to enroll today!

Answer
Ok, you just call the number, press 1 for the double mileage offer, and enter in your credit card #. It then says thank you for signing up and and "Please note, this offer is non transferable".
Seems like they should be online forms like AMEX.

When I called and tried to sign up, it said it didn't recognize my CC(yes I typed it in correctly), so I guess I wasn't targeted for this offer.

Answer
Also not recognize number.

I saw this "special offer" a couple of weeks ago when I log in for Chase online banking. It was a banner-style special offer. When I clicked thru it, it said I am enrolled (or something like that) and no action is needed just use the card in the above mentioned categories and the double miles will be posted (seperately from the regular $1/1mile statement cycle after the promo ends).
I am surprised to learn that call-in activation/registration is ever required. To my best knowledge, all the promo I ever had from Chase, let it be cashback/double miles/statement credit, I have always been told my accounts are automatically enrolled. All I have to do is use the card. It seems my experiences differ from others'.

Answer
So I log into my United account online, and I see a banner ad offering 1000 bonus miles for going paperless statements. I click on it, and the double miles promo comes up, offering double miles 10/1-12/29 for purchases above **$250** in the following categories each month! I call the number it mentions to sign up(there's only a callin # given), and the automated call says my card is not eligible. What's with that? And what happened to the 1000 bonus miles for going paperless info that clicking on the ad was suppose to bring up.
BTW, the promo seems to indicate that you only earn bonus miles above $250 for each month, meaning you have to spend over $250 each month(????) to get any bonus miles? Is that what other people's postcards etc have been saying?
With so many different promos going on simulataneously, I can see how they get confused all the time!

I think each account is tied up with different terms and spending threadholds, according to your spending patterns. Similar to the promo running last year, and the year before. Some people were asked to spend $500 or something, while some less.
I have no idea how come you got the unqualified answer when you called. Maybe you should try to contact the marketing dept to sort things out. Meanwhile, not sure if this will help. I also got the same double miles offer in the mail. It didn't say which account it was targeted. (Yes, I have more than 1 Chase Visa, like every other FTer. :D ). I guess I am just going to focus on one card and build up the spending.

Answer
I have received several promos as discussed above, but the required spend to get the double miles bonus appears to drop as time goes by and you don't bite. First I got one with a required spend of $300 per mopnth before the bonus kicked in. Seem like a sort of mediocre deal, so I stayed with Starwood. The a new offer, minimum monthly spend, $100 to get bonus. Still didn't bite. Now, I have one offer for no minimum spend to get bonus on groceries, restaurants, gas and I am using the card extensively to get the double miles this month.
although the bonus period was Oct 1 to end of Nov. I will stop using it before Nov. since the annual fee will be coming around and I plan to cancel (after all I have several still fee waived UAL cards in my wallet) before paying the fee. Don't want to lose my miles which can happen if you cancel a card before the miles have posted to UAL.

Beware. Their bonus crediting may be "slow" (ie 6-8 weeks after the promotion is ended, not right after you earn them). I haven't enrolled (been having trouble as noted above), but there is a good chance that you will not see any of the bonus miles if this is how the miles will be credited.

Answer
Has anyone seen their double points post yet?We are very close to the 10-12 week period stated by Chase.
