i wanted to try the Concierge service that comes with the citi AA world mastercard (platinum level) so i called up citi to get the phone number and the best they could do was transfer me to American Airlines customer service.
does any one here have their number?

This VIP Desk service is for Citi's World MasterCard cardholders. VIP Desk's relationship is with Citi, not MasterCard.

isnt the whole point of world mc to have mc concierge? like visa signature. or is the issuer responsible for providing one?
why wouldnt have citi customer service known that? new/dumb rep?

All World MasterCards would not necessarily have VIP Desk as the concierge service. Citi uses VIP Desk, but another World MasterCard issuer may use a different vendor. MasterCard requires all World MasterCards to have a concierge service, but it is up to the individual issuing bank to choose the service.
However, Visa Signature has one concierge service that assists all Visa Signature cardholders. This service is provided by World Access. In addition to this basic concierge service, some Visa Signature cards also come with a concierge contracted by the individual issuing bank. For example, a MBNA/BofA World Points Visa Signature has access to the World Access concierge as well as Les Concierges. Les Concierges is contracted by MBNA/BofA for its Visa Signature cardholders.

Concierge service on World MC is interesting. Originally, it was listed on the MC website as a common benefit of World MC. However it did not indicate that there was a common service provider. At some point this benefit was removed from the MC website. Now it is back on the MC website. There is a link for the World MC concierge service provided by VIP desk. A good question is "Has VIP Desk provided all concierge services World MCs all along?"
So, we now have a common concierge service for World MC cardholders. However, all World MCs are not created equally. Compare Citi Chairman World MC ($400 annual fee) to Citi Premier Pass World MC (No annual fee). Chairman card has its own concierge team within VIP Desk, since the basic VIP Desk service is not adequate for a $400 per annum card.
It will be interesting to see what level of service is provided for World Elite MC.

wait now, not all world mastercards have concierge.
i have two. one with citibank and one with chase. the one with chase (chase continental world mastercard) has no concierge but the one with citibank does.
