Question
Yesterday I signed up for the 21K mileage plus card. But then, after I hit submit on my online application, I realized that I did not enter my mileage plus number. Is there a number I can call to give them my account number?
Also, right after I finished the application for the 21K card, I read a post here and saw a link for a 25K card. Should I just cancel (or cut up) the 21K card and re-apply using the 25K link? If I go that route, would it negatively impact my credit score?
Answer
You won't be able to call and give them your MP number but that's not a problem. They will generate a new MP number for you and then you'll have to write a letter to MP asking that they merge the accounts. They won't merge the accounts over the phone and you have to wait until you receive your card statement so that you know the miles have posted.
Here's the letter I have sent:

Hello:
Please consolidate my duplicate Mileage Plus account recently created when I applied for a new Visa card.
The current and active account I would like to keep is MP# which has x miles.
Please consolidate this new account; MP# with x miles.
Sincerely,
Sometimes Chase will create an account for you even though you had your MP # included.

Would I be better off just going with the 25K card and shredding the 21K card when it arrives?

No, you will miss out on the 21K. That's too many miles to loose.
Follow the outline I described in the other board where you asked this question. In the end, it will work out, and you'll have the 21k.
Although you can still also apply for the 25k, get both cards, and by the time both cards post their bonuses, you'll have accumulated a total of 46k.

I did the same exact thing on a UAL 20k app about 2 weeks ago. The card came without my FF number on it (as expected). I called up cust service and told them I wanted to link my FF account to it. Apparently, my FF# was automatically linked to the CC. They probably used my name/address to figure this out.
They are going to send me a new card with my FF# printed on the card soon. The actual CC# is not going to change (so they say).
So it really works itself out...
Answer
After new caerd arrives you could merge them.
