Question
I do some professional consulting from time to time. After reading this forum, I think I might be able to get a business card for the miles too. My question is, since I do not have a business name, can I apply for the business card in my own name? Is there a revenue requirement? I already have personal cards from MP and AA. Which one is easier to be approved for? Thanks for the help.
Answer
I have a Citi Business AAdvantage card which I applied for with my name as the company name. They called to confirm that it was a sole proprietorship (as I used my SSN as EIN), but otherwise no questions were asked.
Never tried with Chase (UA MP).
Answer
You can also apply online for an EIN from the IRS for a business and get your card that way.
Answer
Piece of cake.
I already had a couple cards under my name - say, Mr. Joe Blow.
I applied for a United MP "Business" visa card, under the business name of Mr. Joe Blow, Inc.
No questions asked (other than the standard ones you would expect when applying for any credit card). No special verification that I could tell. The card came a week later, bonus sign up miles showed up shortly after I used it.
Cha-ching!
Answer
It also works with Marriott Busniness card.

Yes and if you have a Solo 401K or a one man 401k , you would have a EIN just for that purpose.
I have a sep-IRA as I max out with either a sep-ira or solo 401k.
for me the only advantage of a solo 401 k Vs. Sep IRA is that the 401 would have loan feature available. ---maybe NOT a good thing :)
but if you do consulting from "time to time" and this is not your prime income, you could put a lot more away with a solo 401.
I myself do not have a EIN and all my cards are personal not business.
