I know that for a while Amex had a cash back card; I don't remember which one, but I thought it went as high as 5%.
Answer
amex blue I believe went upto 5%, but for small spending, it was worthless.
I like the Amex True earnings. 1% - everything, 2% - travel, 3% dining.
I think Discover card now offers higher %% on gas and groceries..

Which citi card? The AT&T Universal Cash Back card stopped - but the Citi Dividend card continues. Was it because of a program change or because the merchant changed how they report? If it was a merchant changing thier catagory, its unlikely that any other Visa or MC will report it as groceries - although Amex may.
Amex Blue Cash does 5% back at groceries once you do $6500/yr.
See this thread on fatwallet for other 5% cards:

You might consider Chase's version of the Citi Dividend Platinum Select card. It considers Super Walmarts to be "grocery stores" while Citibank does not consider them a part of that category. Since Meijer is along the same lines it might work for that card as well.

Answer
If you have a Citibank card you can just ask them to convert your account to a Dividend Reward card. It'll preserve the length of your history (i.e. won't close/open new account) and you'll get 5% on groceries up to $300 per year as long as the program is up and running.
That's probably the easiest way to keep getting 5%. I personally really like Citibank credit cards.
Answer
Citibank recently changed things on their end for Meijer purchases. They're still coded as Grocery/Supermarket on the MC/AMEX networks, but Citi now only counts them as 1%. This is the change that the OP is referring to, as Meijer used to be credited the full 5%.
I know, because the month that they changed this was the month I spent $500 at Meijer on stuff for my new place. I was really hoping for my $25 and was very disappointed to only get $5. :(

I think this might be your best bet for Meijer purchases. IIRC correctly from what I've read on FatWallet it's only available by phone (I can't find it on their website.) I think the card is called the Chase Cash Plus Rewards Mastercard.

This card is no longer availible. PERIOD. I just talked to chase CSR and I pointed chase cards glorified on fat wallet link. She said all that has been discotinued. However beware the fat wallet link still works. I am not sure if you will get the same product or not. My wife applied for Chase Rewrds plus visa from this link yesterday and her application was accepted. I will see what she gets
