Security Notification, Citi card has learned that your account number may have been compromised/stolen from an outside party. They have issued a new card and new account number, old account will no longer be valid after 08/24/06 has any one else experinced this problem?

Yes but they told me this by phone, and it was last spring. In my case, it was a preventative measure. For example, I think a merchant like Staples had a security breach a while ago. Banks cancelled all the numbers they were holding in order to prevent potential fraudulent charges.

This happened to both me and my GF on our Citi Dividend cards about a month ago. No fraudulent charges were ever made but they changed the card number and sent new cards.

MBNA MC replaced last week, same message. New one is BofA branded, I wonder if it was really done to further the move of the MBNA brand out.
Given the chances of fraud, I wonder why banks don't try to replace cards more often, using the Amex model of same main account and incrementing the last 5 digits. Just got a replacment CapOne card that is good 'till 2010....

Interesting...didn't know how that worked with Amex. Always wondered why both of my cards had the last 5 digits.
I can't see MBNA/BOA issuing new card numbers just to make it BOA branded, I'd imagine they just changed the design of the card blank. Do you access it through MBNA Net Access still or through BOA?
