Question
I would say the bulk of the miles I have earned are through using the Citibank MasterCard Debit Card that is connected to my checking account.
You get a mile per dollar and it sure adds up. We don't pay with cash - always the debit card.
You only earn if you use it like a credit card - not an ATM card.
And, unlike a credit card, the funds are debited directly from your checking account - so, no finance charges, no bills....etc.
We actually opened our Citibank checking account only because of the debit card.
Anyway, that's my recommendation.
Thanks!
Answer
Citi are not unique in this. Many banks are now giving reqwards on debit cards.
For example, Bank of America offers:
US Airways debit card:

Alaska Airlines debit card:

But debit cards won't provide the other benefits that Visa, Mastercard and Amex credit or charge cards provide.
Answer
Although, the advantage to the Citibank AA Debit Card is that you can earn 1 mile per $ on charges, whereas most other debit cards only provide 1 mile per 2$ spent.

Hmm... I use Citi as well. However I recently converted as follows:
AA Premium Debit Card --> Thank You Debit Card
AA World MasterCard --> Chairman Card
The reason?... If you have a Thank You Debit Card you get points just for having an account, i.e. as much 800 -1200 per month depending on your services with Citibank. I use my Chairman Card for all of my purchases. This gives me between 2 and 4 points per dollar (including flight point matching). Now I am getting 6,000 to 12,000 points per month. (This excludes all restaurants and hotel charges which go on a different card, i.e. HH AMEX)With the Citi AA program, I was only getting 2,000 to 4,000 points for the same spend.

Plus there's no annual fee on the TY debit card card, but I guess that's canceled out a few times by the change from an $85 to the $400 fee on the Chairman. Although, I guess the AA World lines up more with the PremierPass Elite rather than Chairman, which only has a $75 annual fee.

So I can't use this to get a money order at the Post Office, right?
I'm still looking for a way to pay my rent with a credit card....rrrrr....

Get your landlord to take paypal...
Or you can use MBNA billpay, but you dont get points for that.
Actually, I think you will earn points on a money order, but only 1 per every $3 (since it must be done as a pin transaction), at least on the TY debit card.
