Can anyone advise: we are going on our honeymoon :) in 10 days, and are booked on Air Tahiti Nui, economy class. I have Capital One miles (have never tried to redeem) -- and would like to try for an upgrade to business class.
Has anyone done this successfully?

The only miles that can be redeemed for TN upgrades are TN's own miles (upgrades to business using their miles book into Z.)
The exception to that is credit card programs where any travel spend on the card can be paid using miles redemption after the fact.

I just went to Paris with Air Tahiti Nui in May. Very fine airline ... and very empty planes. This is an Airbus 340 for 250 passengers. On the return we were probably less than 50 passengers on board.
They told us at the airport in CDG that passengers will embark in JFK for the second leg of the trip. Could not verify since I deplaned in JFK.
The airlines get money from the governement of Tahiti.
I wish they continue to fly but not sure with the low load.

The only thing you can do with Capital One is book airfare by multiplying the price of the ticket by 100 or 150, I don't remember which.
