Experian Report

Question
I remember the time when I asked a question about the Experian Credit Report I pulled online through experian.com - it was a question about which section indicated hard inquiries and which section indicated soft ones.
I think the answer was that "Requests Viewed By Others" was the hard inquiry list and the "Requests Viewed Only By You" was the list of soft pulls.
(Am I right?)
My question is, assuming the above is correct, when I applied to Chase for United MP Visa I was denied based on too many inquiries and I am pretty sure they pull an Experian report (right?) I have 2 inquiries in the "Requests Viewed By Others" section and find it hard to believe that Chase saw these two requests as TOO MANY.
Can anyone confirm that I have the hard/soft pull lists correct and that Chase pulls a hard Experian?
Thanks!

Yes, you're correct in your thinking there. I don't know if Chase pulls Experian specifically, but basically any credit card application will result in a hard pull. I do find it hard to believe that they denied you simply based on having two hard pulls on your account; chances are that they denied you for other reasons as well and decided to just give you that as the denial cause.

Answer
I c&p the following from my credit monitoring service
What are inquiries
An inquiry is a record of someone checking your credit information. Inquiries come in two distinct categories: "hard inquiries" that occur when a business views your credit report for the purpose of an application and "soft inquiries" that occur when your credit is checked for other reasons. If you apply for a new credit card, a hard inquiry record will appear on your credit report and may cause a drop in your credit score of about 5 points. When you check your own credit report, or when it is checked for a pre-approved marketing purpose, it is considered a soft inquiry and will not harm your credit score.

Answer
When I have applied for a Chase card (UA MP) they have pulled an Experian report.

Answer
Did they tell you it is Experian?
For Midwest locations, Trans Union seems to be the agency lenders prefer to use for first decision, (Equifax for East Coast and Experian for West Coast). They then would do account reviews on other agency reports.
You may want to get other 2 agencies' reports to see - the hard inquiries on other reports most likely would be very different from the one you saw on Experian's report.

Answer
In the past, Chase has pulled TransUnion for me for 2 United Visas but Experian for a different card. So it can definitely vary. There's a Yahoo group with a database of which bureaus certain issuers are likely to pull by geographic location:
