Do cash advances earn FF miles?

Question
I have a Citi AA MC, and am opening a new Citibank checking account. There is an option to use your credit card to fund the account.
Will I earn AA miles for a cash advance type purchase? Are there any extra fees?

Why not read the applicable agreements and find out?

Answer
yes cash advances can have MANY extra fees...HIGH HIGH HIGH interest rates....call them first to clearly understand what the deal is.
also, as i know it, most to all credit card programs DONT offer miles on cash advances.

Answer
Most cards don't offer miles on cash advances or convenience checks (pretty much like a cash advance) and have high transaction fees. The very rare exception I found to this is the Bank of America USAirways card. They gave me convenience checks recently - no convenience check fee and 1 mile per $1 of value cashed up to 20,000 miles. I have been writing those checks and immediately paying them off to get to the 20,000 mile limit. A great deal though extremely rare.

I received bonus miles for balance transfer only once from Citi AA MC. IIRC, there was no fee and $1/mile up to 10K miles. That was about 7-8 years ago...

Answer
Depending on Certain Card
Now United Airlines card will give you FF miles for Balance Transfers
Most Credit cards and I say Most
You DONT earn on interest charges, balance transfers, cash advances, convenience checks, unauthorized charges, fees of any kind, purchases of money orders, wire transfers or traveler's checks, and purchases of casino gaming chips or similar purchases.

Yes very lucky and 20,000 to 40,000 USAirways miles richer. USAirways BofA convenience checks are a loser for the bank in my case. I got a total of six checks. Wrote one, no convenience check fee, earn 1 mile/dollar, the day the charge hits my bank I deposit another check and make a payment online. Kept doing this in May for up to 20,000 miles. Just deposited my last of three checks for June today. It will hit the bank Friday or so and I will pay it off online with the original money I received from the convenience check.
It is unclear to me whether I will earn 20,000 miles each month or 20,000 miles total (they appear to be separate offers and there is a 20,000 mile cap per offer) but in either case it was a very easy way to earn miles with extremely little interest paid (I mailed my first payment so I paid a little interest then).
