Question
As a lot of newspapers and other sources reported yesterday the european commissioner for competition, Neelie Kroes, forces the credit card industry to reduce the prices and to allow more competition. She stated that the european CC market is too intransparent.
Here (http://europa.eu.int/rapid/pressReleasesAction.do?reference=SPEECH/06/239&format=HTML&aged=0&language=EN&guiLanguage=en) you can find her speech regarding this topic.
Answer
It would seem that this person wants more "Union" in the European Union.
I have read and heard and experienced a large price differnce in certain goods purchased in one country over another. Soft drinks, as I remember, were one example. 89 cents in Germany versus nearly 2 Euro in France for the same or similar drink.
Prices need to be stablized and standardized within the EU.

Then the income, taxes and a lot more would need to be standardizied, too. I am quite sure we won't see this is in near future (and will much likely never!).
Answer
I welcome this type of political interest on the credit card front.
I'm not talking about equal pricing, just equal market access and an ounce of transparency.
A few weeks back, I tried to purchase gas for a friend at a French supermarket/gas station (Match) and they wouldn't accept a German VISA card. Said it had to be a French VISA. They would, however, let me buy a proprietary value card for €2 which I could then load with the German VISA and then buy the gas with that proprietary card. :td:
