MBNA Quantum Card

Question
As a long-time MBNA Quantum card holder who hasn't used the card in awhile, I found it interesting that when I logged onto their web site I found I was now the holder of a MBNA Amex card. After calling customer service, apparently MBNA had went through their card files and switched a bunch of customers over from Quantum to an Amex card. I, for one, had not received any notification prior to this.

Answer
I got a World Mastercard with WorldPoints instead. No notice either, just arrived in the mail, and as I recall it was well before my Quantum was due to expire.
I think the Quantum is dead. I dunno how they determined which card to give us instead, though. I never used my Quantum account much, but I'm looking into using the WorldPoints setup if I don't finally take them up on the constant cash offers they give me. I haven't pulled the trigger, but I keep getting checks good for 0% until about 11 months out (the month keeps changing each time they send them). Still the $75 fee, but I could make that up in a month at this point if I took most of the credit line and dumped it into EmigrantDirect at 4.5%.
I actually saved my original translucent Quantum, still think it's a cool card design. :p (They sent a new design black card when the original expired.)

Answer
I had the same experience as CrazyOne. Except that the Cash Advance Checks carry a 3% transaction fee (minimum fee $10, maximum fee $250).

$250, really? Last I knew it was max $75, but I haven't read the fine print recently. I'll have to look at what says.

I also hadn't used my Quantum in quite awhile since my card of choice with MBNA is presently the Merrill+ card. Card Services at MBNA told me that they were still issuing Quantum so I wonder what went into their decision to replace existing ones...perhaps lack of use and they're trying to lure us with WorldPoints.
I chuckled reading your comment about the original translucent card as that was one of the item that attracted me to get the card and I have saved mine also.

Answer
Yeah, I actually have another MBNA card I use more often as well, LLBean, normally only to buy stuff there but I've been using it more often the last month or so while I try to figure out what to transition to from the Amex now that the free year has run out. (I transferred all my MR points to gift cards, which would make some Amex folks shudder at the low rate of return, but I did get 10k of them free and a free card for a year. It was the best thing for me, $270 free.) In fact, I still need to call Amex to refuse the fee and see what I might get from them instead.
BTW, I checked my most recent MBNA checks for the WorldPoints card, and they still say max cash advance fee is $75.
