Called Discover to get a cash back check sent to me last night. I haven't used Discover in quite a while.
The CSR asked would I be interested to see if I qualified for a promo. I said sure. About 30 seconds later, he stated that I would get $5 in rebate credit for each of my next 6 purchases. Easy way to get $30.
I asked who was eligible, and he said it was targetted, but people were welcome to call in and ask if they were eligible.

That's a good promo. :) With the cashback rewards getting worse and worse, maybe I'll stop using my discover for awhile. :)

When we called D said they never heard of $5 rebate for next six use, but they have a $30 rebate if you use it for over $50 in the next 30 days.

I haven't used my Discover card since summer. I called today and they offered my $30.00 for spending $50.00 in the next 30 days.

Today, I called in and was told I was not eligible. No such offer available to me. I questioned whether offer exists. Lady says yes, but not for you. I said I want to know why....I have very high limit, good customer, used to use it alot for cash back, but switch for miles on MC. Lady transferred call to sup, who says absolutely I can sign you up. See you used to get cash back in the hundreds, where have you been lately, want you back! I used to run all of my business expense through it, however thought miles was a better ROI. I still think they would do it for anyone who takes it to the supervisor level. Just need to say you are an valued customer. Good Luck!

FYI: I have been using the card in small amounts for some automatic payments, so my current balance was a little over $500. I pay it in full each month at billing date.

I charge maybe around $1300 a month --- not a really huge user. Not sure why I got $40 instead of $30. Agent read the entire offer to me and supposedly I will get a USPS letter detailing offer as well.

I haven't used the card in over a year... I remember having some issue with the card, most likely because of the silly "up to 1% cash back" and I don't use the card for all purchases, so its like getting pennies added to my account.
My current cash back was at $3.42 or something like that...
The retension specialist did say that she has seen better offers than my $15, so I could try back later... but even when I said I would try later, she tried to get me for only $15... She said she doesn't know why its different offers for different people. ( I never said I knew about any specials, just that I saw a promo for $25 to open a new account, so it seemed silly to accept $15)
Discover would have to offer me more than that to get me to use the card again... too many bad experiences using the card personally!

I called last night asking for the $30 rebate promotion. Was told the promotion was not on my account. The agent did say she has seen many of these promotions for others. She transferred me to "marketing" to see if I could get it added onto my account. I told marketing about it and he said he could do better and gave me $40 for my next purchase. (no minimum amount!!) ^
I had my partner call, he spoke to an agent who transferred him to "retention". He got the $40, but he would only get it after he spent $50. Still not bad! So, definitely worth a call and if they say your account currently doesn't have the promotion, ask them who you can talk to to see if you can get the promotion added to your account!.

CSR said no, but could transfer me to the closing department as they will offer you things to keep your account open. I'll keep this in mind for next time.
Asked to speak to a supervisor who said I might not be able to get offer because I have the restaurant card.
She came back and offered me $20 cash back with my next purchase. I'm not complaining. I like Free money. Thanks OP
