Question
I just received a targetted solicitation for 0% on BT's for life on a Citi AAdvantage MC (no BT fee). No miles are earned on the BT. I suppose Citi is counting on people to take them up on the offer and to continue to purchase items on the credit card, which are charged at the standard rate (17.24% variable).
I have a couple of questions,
1. If anyone has accepted this offer in the past, does the $50 annual fee incur the standard rate or 0% (I'm guessing the standard rate)?
2. Has anyone successfully transferred an offer like this from a Citi AA MC to another existing Citi credit card account?
Answer
not sure about the annual fee, but you cannot BT from one citi card to another citi card, AA is a great citi card though!

APR for the annual fee will be the same as purchases which as you mentioned is 17.24 at the moment.

I guess I wasn't clear on my question. I'd like to know if anyone in the past has successfully requested that Citi move the 0% for life offer from one card to another card. That way I could still use the Citi AA for mileage accrual. Under the current offer, the only way it makes sense is to sock-drawer the Citi AA card after requesting a BT.

One possibility is simply to ask them to change the AA card to a no-fee one (asking them first if the previous terms on the balance transfer will still stand), stick it in a drawer, and then open another AA card 60 days later.
What I do: I use my Amex SPG. $20K spend gets me 25K miles on AA (and almost any other airline, less for United). I use a Citi Dividend or a Chase Cash Plus Rewards for gas/groceries/pharmacies (5% cash back) or places that don't take Amex (1% then).
The offer I got from Citi was 0%, no transfer fee, but only for 12 months :(
I took advantage of it, got them to just send me a check direct (very nice). I didn't take out my whole line of credit since it would screw up my credit score big time. I also made sure the current balance was $0 before the transfer so I won't incur those revolving balance charges.
Answer
For life?
1. Transfer maximum balance to an empty card
2. Ask bank to refund the overpayment.
3. Put money in high yield fund.
4. Make minimum payment each month.
5. Collect interest for life!
:)

Are you sure for life?

I don't see any code on the cover letter or BT checks. And yes, it is for life.

I have no idea why I was targetted for this offer. I had previously ignored many 1.9% - 5.9% for life offers.
It really is a sneaky offer for a miles-earning card. The only way the offer pays off is to stop using the card, which defeats the whole purpose of having the miles-earning card in the first place. I've circumvented this problem by opening another Citi AA account and sock-drawering this card.

0% for life was only on BT's entered into during a specific time period. For instance, I can no longer ask for a BT and still get this rate. Purchases are at the standard rate.

Citibank knows what offers they are making available to each card holder. You generally can look them up on-line. In my case, they sent me checks, so I initially did not even call them -- I just used a check.
