Does anyone know if the Chase United Plat Visa double miles promotion (currently on) is targeted? I got a postcard saying that miles would automatically be doubled until the end of Dec (or Jan, I forget) for my card. I told my mom that United miles would be doubled, but she never got such a postcard and now I'm wondering if I've misled her.

I don't think it is targeted from what they told me. However, It is VERY< VERY difficult to get them to post the miles they owe. They are terrible in this regard.

the love the double promotion is for anyone holding a point/mile etc card. there is a bit of a lag time in posting for this promotion. you only get the double at grocery, pharmacy, restaurants and gas stations ONLY.

I called for clarification on the "Love the Double" promotion. It does apply to the Marriott Visa that I carry, with no registration necessary. Promotion runs from 10/1 through 12/31, with bonus points posted 8-10 weeks after the 12/31 date. Double points are earned on purchases at the following merchants:
grocery stores
pharmacies
restaurants/dining
gas stations
dry cleaners
wireless phone service
utilities
movies (and refreshments purchased at the theater)
health care
I will be watching the account carefully for the bonus points, since I agree with Motintan - Chase is terrible regarding the posting of correct numbers of points earned.

Hmm. I'm pretty good at reading all the fine print, and I could have sworn that my Chase United Airlines Visa was giving double miles for all purchases. Chase has a ton of different promos out, each different for each card type, so maybe the Marriott is limited to specific categories (or maybe I didn't read the postcard as carefully as I thought). I know my husband's Chase cash card (used to be GE Rewards) doubles only a few categories. Also, his Chase Amazon.com Visa gave a $10 credit for $100 spent (which my husband did and the cash credit was immediate on his account activity when he hit the $100 spending). Now Chase Amazon.com is having another one between 12/15 and 1/15 for $25 for $100 spent :) I hope they keep this up :D ...

I just pulled out the postcard, and it's not "Love the Double" for the Chase United Mileage Plus Visa --- it's "Double Miles Every Day". The text is as follows: "Start earning Double Miles every day on all your purchases from November 15 to January 14, 2005. And collect miles twice as fast towards your next great getaway! Just use your Mileage Plus Visa for everything you buy - from new furniture to a night on the town. You'll be amazed at how quickly your miles can add up. There's no need to enroll. Just use your Mileage Plus Visa".

I believe this is targeted. I called Chase and they said there was nothing on my account to indicate I would receive double miles for the mentioned period. However, it sounded like I was speaking to someone on the other side of the globe who was not to sure of his answers.

Did it show up as double miles (or bonus miles) on your Nov statement, or how did you get the double miles for Nov? We got a normal looking Nov statement, no mention of the double miles (and just the normal credit card miles deposited to UAL FF acct). I thought the double miles were always 6-8 weeks into the future for posting... or do we need to call Mileage Plus Visa? I do have the postcard to backup the claim if it is targeted.

That's great for you! Maybe you are getting double miles from an earlier promotion, or maybe you get a longer period of time for the double miles. I sent an email to Chase, and they verified that my husband qualified for double miles from Nov 15 to Jan 14. They said the bonus miles would post 8-10 weeks after each calendar month the miles were earned. So, I shouldn't be expecting bonus miles to be posting anytime soon...

MP VISA BONUS is a catch all phrase that covers any bonus, incuding, double miles for ticket purcahses. It does not just cover bonuses for the doible everything promotion.

doesnt seem to be targeted, they told me over the phone when they wanted me to upgrade from signature to platinum. instead i kept my signature and opened the platinum to receive 25,000, although it did cost me $140. (big deal)

Actually, I think the specific bonus offer is targeted. With the exact same United Visa Plat credit card, my husband got double miles on everything from Nov 15 - Jan 14 whereas my brother got double miles on 5 categories only (gas, dining, ... 5 altogether) from Oct 1 to Jan 31. Neither of them had to register, it was automatic. I'm wondering what(if any) promotion my mom got --- she emailed the credit card and hopefully they will tell her. As I mentioned before, she never received a bonus promotion postcard and both my husband & brother received postcards.

Oh man, the Chase United Signature Visa promotions were different for different people. Apparently my mom was not privy to ANY of the double mile promotions for her card. She emailed the Chase United Signature Visa and they said her account wasn't enrolled in any promotion. So I did tell her wrong... :(

My brother got 1/31/06 for his Chase United promo, but it was double on those 5 categories (like gas, etc), not double on everything like my husbands (which ended 1/14/06).

I am a new cardholder as of November 2005.
My "period" is Feb 1 to April 1 2006.
I was planning to run thru several hefty charges, so lets

All - I am intrigued, as you may be also, in that (based on series of recent posts) Chase seems to be truly doing some "test marketing" with all sorts of variations of this double miles promo such as a) rolling windows of opportunity, b) different target audiences (new cardholders, older cardholders, etc), and even different spend types (double for only drug and groceries, vs double for all purchases, etc).
One the one hand I am impressed to see that Chase is using targeted marketing in such mathematical variations as to hopefully make some valid conclusions.
OTOH - I have been left out of these double miles promos now for several quarters - and I literally put my Continental/Chase card "on the shelf" and have not used it for years due to my dis-inclination to ever purposefully accrue Continental Nonepass miles.
