Amex Aeroplan Platinum Vs Cibc Aeroplan Gold??

Question
AMEX IS $400 PER YEAR VD CIBC $120 PER YEAR.
Thoughts on these two cards?
Appreciated as always,
SML

Answer
AMEX Comes with Air Canada Maple Leave Lounge access, the CIBC doesn't...
AMEX has extended warranty, CIBC doesn't.
AMEX has Hotel Buglary Insurance, CIBC doesn't.
Earning ratio is higher with Amex..
Payments are due in full with AMEX
CIBC doesn't have a lot of things..

Answer
The only reason I chose CIBC is because it is a VISA card and its accepted everywhere. In my medium sized city AMEX is not accepted at most grocery stores and some other retail stores, so that makes the mileage accumulation alot less for me.
Too bad, because AMEX does have alot more to offer.

I would have to agree, I originally found with my Plt AMEX that it was not accepted at a lot of places - even in the big cities - so I took a CIBC Classic Aero Visa ($29) just for emergencies when I might get stuck where they wouldn't take AMEX. HOWEVER - I am finding more and more little stores, grocery stores, gas stations, Burger King? - that are accepting AMEX. I keep being told that AMEX charges the little guy the highest percentage of all the card, but it appears something is changing.
The only complaint I have with the AMEX Aeroplt is that it doesn't give me access to Star Alliance lounges. I would prefer that over just Maple Leaf access.
