Homophobic MBNA

Question
Just found out from the Corporate Equality Index of the Human Rights Campaign that MBNA has received only 43% on its index score. One main reason is for their funding of anti-gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered causes, giving $6,250 to the Focus on the Family, a virulently anti-gay organisation. Yuck.
I think its time to cancel my MBNA credit card.
Does anyone know how long you have to remain a member after you get your bonus Starwood points in order to keep them?

Answer
Interesting contrast.

Answer
Note, however, they're being bought out by Bank of America which has an 86 score.

So what you are basically saying is that you're only willing to make a stand based on your personal values after you've earned your points. Nice. Those are awfully expensive points IMHO.

I understood that the OP wants to receive what he is owed before he severs relations with the company. That seems fair to me. I don't see how sacrificing the points would make a difference.

It's all about principles.

True, but it'll cost MBNA more if the OP keeps the points and cuts the relationship than just cutting the ties and letting them keep the points. I don't think that was the original intent, but it is another way of looking at it.

This is FT. :p

Answer
In 2002, when I was in college in DC, I volunteered at a fundraiser for the Florida GOP and Charles Cawley (MBNA's CEO at the time) was sitting right between Jeb and George W. at the dinner.
But anyways, that they've given 6,000 to focus on the family shouldn't be that outrageous considering how much they could've given. And if you've ever actually listened to their radio programming, you'd know that it's not that extreme of an organization. Christian, yes. Overtly bigoted, no.

Here's a well-know quote from James Dobson, the founder of Focus on the Family.
"Homosexuals are not monogamous. They want to destroy the institution of marriage. It will destroy marriage. It will destroy the Earth."
(One can find various citations for this quote. Here's one from Vanity Fair: http://www.vanityfair.com/commentary/content/articles/050124roco04)
If accusing gay people of trying to destroy marriage and thereby the earth is not extremism, I'm not sure what is. I'm with the OP that I'd rather the companies I'm doing business with not be giving money to FoF.
