Marriott Visa: MUST pay annual fee

Question
Called Chase Bank today to try and get $30 annual fee waived. No dice. Talked to CSR and supervisor who both said only way to not pay is to close the account. Offered to change me into other Chase credit card products with no fee that earn other rewards, but the Marriott program is apparently so rigid that they have no leeway at all. Asked about 3,000 - 5,000 Marriott points to compensate for the $30, but was told "no" on that too. I only use this card when I'm at Marriott properties, but I do like it on those occasions. Also charge the maintenance fees for our Marriott timeshares on the card, earning 3 points per dollar on those.
Hope others have better luck getting fee waived, 'cuz I got NOWHERE!

Answer
So cancel it, wait a few months, and get another one, along with its bonus and free for a year offer. It works.

Answer
If the fee wasn't already due (in other words, a couple months out when you know a fee is coming) --
- Apply for a new card while you still have the old one.
- Get approved, get new signup bonus
- Have BankOne add the credit from the old account into the new account
