Question
Hello,
Appiled and received my new card. How difficult is it to redem for award certificates? Easy and quick? Or long and hard process? I need to redeem for a Hyat certificate for $200 and $500 cruise cert. ? How long to get the cert in the mail? E-mail ? Any input is appreciated. Thank you, DEB :)
Answer
Hi Debra,
Check out the other two PP threads in this forum for some more info about the card:

My personal experience with GCs has been that the process is easy, but delivery is actually pretty slow. Maybe 4-6 weeks. So put it in the easy and long categories. :)
And just out of curiosity, how are you getting $700 in reward GCs with a new card?

My cruise is late in 2006 and with sign up bonus points and charges I will put on my business card for paint material purchases( I own a paint contracting business) in the next year my goal is $200 for Hyatt and the big $500 off my cruise. Lofty goals but..... I hope to get close. :) Thanks for the reply and the threads. Deb

Hi,
One more question...once I have the Royal Caribbean cruise certificate in my hand how do I redeem it? Upon sailing? To Travelocity before final payment? On board? I know the Hyatt cert. I just make the reservation and use the certificate like cash. Right? Thanks, just wanted to be sure since they are slow in arriving what I need to do with them when I receive them? Any info is appreciated. Thanks, DEB
Answer
It's tough to say w/o looking at the actual cert how you can use it. I highly doubt you can use the Royal Caribbean cert as payment w/ Travelocity. Presumably you would either have to use it directly through their web site or maybe over the phone.
Regarding Hyatt, I've never used them, but I'm guessing you just present it as payment at checkout (assuming you're not booking a prepaid rate). If you call Citibank Thank You Redemptions, they may be able to answer these questions for you.
Also, are there are merchants that Citi offers that you would use regularly anyway (Target, Sears, Macy's, Best Buy, Home Depot)? Consider there's no real difference between spending $500 at Target and redeeming a $500 cruise GC vs redeeming a $500 Target GC and spending $500 on your cruise. This lets you redeem for awards in smaller chunks ($50 increments) rather than waiting till Dec 2006; doesn't expose you to the risk that you do not make your 70,000 point goal; and, most importantly, does not tie you to Royal Caribbean in case another cruise line has a package more suitable for your needs.

Great food for thought. ....I hadnt thought of using the rewards in smaller increments. Thanks for the info. Deb :)

I don't know if the T&C's of the RCCL certs are the same as the Carnival certs, but I did get some Carnival certs through this program. They are good on new bookings only made directly through the cruise line. I can't use them for shipboard credit, etc.
