Question
There is a thread in American AA that the Citi Bank AAdvantage card fee is going up to $100 from $50. Does anyone know anything about this? I can't believe it....which means it may be true.

Why don't you call Citibank and ask?
Answer
I got notice on my VISA Gold not on the MC. I think they are trying to get people to switch to the MC and this might be one way to do it. My fee is waived anyway through my citigold account so it doesn't affect me. Best to read the thread at the American Airline thread rather than duplicate it here.

Seems to me that if is was your criteria for picking a card, you would use a CC. Look the fee stinks but I find that Citi AA goes by the Wall St Journal published rate. better than some CC's that makeup their own rate and end up sticking you more than the flat 3%.

Far as I know, the Capital One and MBNA (on those of its cards without fees) also use fair rates. Only AMEX has been an issue in the past. Capital One and MBNA (some, not all) only pass through the MC/VISA fees -- 1% I believe.
Answer
jackp,
$50 if the current gold card fee I think. So if it's going up to $100, what would the plat card (current fee $85) go up to? I don't think they would raise it much higher, or they will lose many customers, at least me.
Answer
Received two renewal AAdvantage VISA cards today. Folder says "Annual Membership Fee: $50 every 12 months". This account is seldom used since 2003, I cannot imagine they are treating us any better than other customers, but it's also true that they recently increased the credit limit for no apparent reason.

I just received an offer for Citibank AA Gold Mastercard for $25. Doesn't look like its an introductory rate.
I guess they can raise that whenever, but I don't think thats too shabby for a miles card. Throwing in 15K to sign up doesn't hurt either.
Are you guys on the Platinum or Signature to get the fee increase?
Answer
not really
Answer
Isn't AA offering free till end of June? fee free plus 15K miles. Check Pgary's website. Excellent website.

I just got my notice (Gold MasterCard) and it was $50. Cancelled anyway- I just got a card from my mortgage company (Wells Fargo) that gives me 1% against my mortgage principal.
Citibank did NOT want to let go. The offshore guy transferred me to a bouncy young American woman who was SO sad I was cancelling. She told me how well I'd managed the account, asked if I had balances elsewhere (no- guess she was about to offer a cheap balance transfer) and offered me 2,500 miles as a "thank-you" gift. She also offered me a couple of other cards. Finally I asked her to please just cancel the card and hung up.
