Negative balance on United Mileage Plus Visa card

Question
Apologies if this quesition has been asked:
What happens if there is negative ending balance on my UA MP Visa card? Will they pull miles from my United Mileage Plus account?

Answer
If there's a negative balance, Bank One/Chase owes you money. You can either keep it on the card and use it as a credit toward charges on your next statement, or have Bank One mail you a check for the balance.
You won't be "charged" miles if you've overpaid your card. The banks love it when this happens, as they can essentially use your money interest-free until you charge up the card again or ask for them to cut you a check.

Thanks much, is there a difference if the negative balance is because of a refund for returned merchandise?

I don't have direct experience with negative credit card balances, but I do know that you only get miles or points for the net purchases in a given period (gross purchases less returns). It would seem that if this is the case, your mileage or point balance should be reduced in a period in which your returns exceeded your gross purchases.
