Question
Citicard (MC) for Aadvantage will let you reduce your Cash advance availability to ZERO.
I suggest you call them and do it now. Get it in writing too or at least record who you spoke to and when you dealt with this issue on your account./
Bank One (Visa) for United said they cannot take away or reduce the cash advance limit for you but after a bit of pushing, a supervisor told me they can put a "security watch" on any and all attempts that any merchant--or even me--tries to ever put one through. Then I can say yes or no to it.
I sure hope they call me! They have my cell and home numbers.
US Bank (Visa) for NWA said they cannot and will not do either. CS put me through to the fraud dept, which is where the woman thought I should bring this issue up to. Fraud dept is 866-540-9904 but Erin, the manager there, was not very friendly or sympathetic to my cause. I asked her how one can prevent merchants who may knowingly or unknowingly (or stupidly) put through a cash advance. She said there were no provisions for this and that I have to contact Visa about it. Even after trying to get her just to notify her managers of this concern, I got flack. So I will contact Visa. Mean Erin said CS should not have put me thru to her today and yet I had to wait about 15 minutes to get anywhere in my calls to begin with... Oh well.
I think some merchants control it but seriously, some CSRs have no idea what you are talking about when you ask if it is a cash advance or a purchase, and some have no way of finding out either. I am thinking primarily of gift card purchases one can do when trying to charge them on mileage earning credit cards. Some credit cards make the decision too, and I am trying to make it so if I do one that is about to come thru as a cash advance, it will not happen. I check my statement all the time but I find some of the terms and conditions of both a credit card and a merchant can be rather vague--especially for the layperson to fully grasp or be able to handle when holding down a regular job.
Well, that's my thang... Comments welcome, condescending posts or posters are not.
