This link seems to say that the gold card now only gives 15k bonus. It gives 2miles per $1 spent though. That sounds great, why doesn't everyone apply for this instead of the other one? :>
Btw there is a special holiday bonus for applying for the visa signature card...17.5k bonus miles...
Rain :>

• 2 miles for every $1 spent on United purchases
• 1 mile for every $1 spent on all other purchases
Answer
United.com currently is advertising 17,500 miles for signing up and making your first purchase with the Mileage Plus Visa. I would just use that link.
Got an offer in the mail yesterday from United offering the usual 15k. It is common to have multiple offers floating around.
I think 17.5K is pretty good.

Answer
One interesting nuance for UA flyers: the 15k card gives 2 ff for each $1 spent on UA tix, but the 20k promo seems to say only 1 ff per $1 regardless if UA or not?????
Answer
Get the Visa signature for 17.5K, then upgrade to the gold for a 5K bonus when you upgrade. Simple solution.
