Question
The 3 major U.S. credit bureaus are required by federal law (the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act) to provide consumers with a copy of their credit report beginning today 12/1 in the western U.S., to be phased in elsewhere over the next few months. A joint website has been established for this purpose by the 3 bureaus (www.annualcreditreport.com). Copies of one's credit report may be downloaded immediately upon registering. The all-important "credit score" is not part of this report, but the credit bureaus are selling this number for a small fee (Experian wants $3.99).
My score was 793 (830 is highest, 330 is lowest), despite applying for numerous credit cards in the search for mileage opportunities. My conclusion would be that if one's credit is excellent, one should not be particularly concerned about applying for cards that offer mileage opportunities.

I don't currently live in one of the Western states, and haven't lived in one for over 20 years, but out of curiosity, I tried my address when I lived in California - it worked !
I got my credit report.
