Answer
Sorry for going slightly off topic, but citibank just sent me an offer on a standard non-reward card. Anyone else get a 5% cash back on all purchases (up to $100) through August offer? It seems like it's targeted.
Answer
The cash-back card you describe is advertised in the Sunday newspaper, e.g. not targeted. If you were pre-approved, that's targeted
Answer
Actually, it wasn't for the cash back card. I've got a plain old Platinum Select. The offer I registered for was 5% back on that card. It was kind of embarassing, though. I hadn't used the card in over a year so they blocked its use. I found out trying to charge $4.51 at the supermarket. I'm glad it wasn't busy.
Answer
I got the same email.
I noticed that you get the 12,000 by using the email link instead of the 10,000 given on the AA link. Plus you only pay 50 annual fee after 6 months. hmm $ 85 or $ 50 for the same amount of miles???
And I saw on Citi's Website (a while back) that you can upgrade the card and pay the same $50 for those of you who want the the higher limit on miles! :D

Generally $50 is the annual fee for the Gold MC while $85 is the annual fee for the Platinum MC. I can verify from experience that if you don't need the Platinum, but that's the best signup offer but it waives the annual fee for 6 months, then before the 6 months are up you can downgrade to Gold and thus only have to pay $50 the first time around, without affecting your signup bonus miles. You may even be able to downgrade to Bronze (if Bronze is available that month :) ) just before the 6 months are up and then not pay anything, but I can't verify that one.
