Is it a bad idea to have a joint credit card?

Question
Well.
My husband and I have had these joint credit cards for couple years, and we didn't have any problems so far.
But my husband just applied to Mileage Plus Visa card and I received a card too.
I read someone else's post, and said his wife just got MP card too and he was a referral so he received 5000 miles.
Now I am thinking, maybe I should have done that too. I feel like I missed 5000 miles.
My question is that is it a bad idea to have a joint credit card?
How many cardit cards are safe?
We have about 10 credit cards, maybe 3 of them are joint. Usually he is the primary cardholder.
Should I close the cards that we dont' use?
My credit history is about 4-5 years now, and so is his.
Any advice?
Thanks a lot.

Answer
You used to need at least one credit card primary so you could establish a credit history, although the way some companies report now can get history being secondary but to play it safe at least make sure you have one primary in case your spouse dies.
