Is it better to get a Hilton (mastercard or AMEX) card, or a mypoints (mastercard) to earn Hilton points?

I think it's better to get the Hilton card to earn Hilton points. You can get both the AMEX and Visa Hilton cards and link them to the same account.

I am trying to understand this linking of accoutns. I have both a Hilton Amex and a BLue Amex. I get Hilton points and MR points with the BLUE. However, I can't combine them.

Actually, you can combine the points you get with the Blue and Hilton cards. The Hilton card will automatically earn Hilton points which are transferred to your Hilton account at the end of your billing cycle. The Blue card earns MR points which can be converted into Hilton points at the rate of 1,000 MR points for 1,300 Hilton points. In order to do this you would have to go to the MR website and link your Hilton account to your MR account. Once this is done you can only convert MR points to Hilton points in 1,000 point increments (1000, 2000, and so on), nothing in between like 1,250 MR points.
IMHO I'd recommend not doing this because you get much more Hilton points with the Hilton card than through MR. You can use your MR points for other conversions (airlines, other hotels, merchandise, etc.)

Get the HHonors Visa for the Hilton and other Visa promos. Its no fee and its a good compliment to the HHonors AMEX. Its also no fee and more points/purchase. I'd cancel the AMEX Blue MR account as there's a fee to keep Membership account.
