Visa Signature Cards

Question
Has anyone charged a large single item or bill on one of these "no spending limit cards". I was just wondering if they work as described.

Never had an issue with either a MC World or a VS Signature cards

Answer
It's the same theoretical "no limits" as an Amex card (for both Visa Sig and MC World). I can't run up six figures on it overnight, but it's based on past purchases, credit ratings, etc. But my Visa Sig card has a dollar limit which I can exceed, providing I pay back at least the excess over my limit per month.

I had no problem dropping $15,000 in Marriott charges on a Sig card that had a $9,500 limit. (I was a tad bit skeptical, and even had my wife's MR Visa Sig with me as a backup, but it went through with no problems.)

Just put $42,234.91 on mine and had no problem, although the merchant said he would feel better by calling just to be sure since he had never had anyone pull out a Visa card and put that much on it before.
Maybe he thought it was a scam. When he called Visa said no problem.

Answer
Not to be nosy, but what do you charge for $42,000 on a credit card? A car? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I've always wanted to do that.

Answer
What were the issuing banks of those Signature Cards?

I've tried charging a new car before and the dealership would not go for it, due to the $1000 or so they could have to pay the CC company.

Citibank AAdvantage for me for both the Visa Sig and the MC World.

Answer
I have bought cars and trucks with Visa. I always work out a deal on the bank Visa charges. About 2% most of the time. I just paid my dad's AS Visa today. He had charged a new Mazda 626 in HNL. Talk to the Dealer, not the salesman when it comes to charging a car.

I thought most banks issued them...but my VS Signature is from US Bank and my MC World is from Chase

Answer
I had a bad experience with the Chase CO visa signature card. While all charges went thru, the miles didn't post, inspite of paying off balance on card every month on time. I was told by chase rep I could charge up to 36k<9kcreditlimit> and did.
Three month later, no miles so I stopped using card and wrote to ask what the deal was<at this point balance back to zero>.
Got a letter telling me that miles don't post when you are over your credit limit!
They made it sound like it was my fault but they did credit me for all purchases <60k albeit 4 months late>
I suspect when started this program, they didn't update their programs. My old chase # still showed up on their web site. They may have fixed this but I havn't charged more than my limit to find out.
My primary cards for biz are Citibank AAvantage platinum select<no annual mileage limit> and a new Starwood Amex<thanks to the info on this board>
By the way, the Citi miles just posted for this month to put me over 1million plan to date with AA!

Not very good music to my ears. I just got my new Chase Visa Signature card. I thought that there is a $85 annual fee and you get 10,000 Onepass miles, but no annual fee and no miles?!?!??!?! weird.

I have tried to apply for these **** citibank CC + Diner's Club, but got rejected every time due to insufficient credit history. I moved from Canada 3 years ago and still have difficulty getting a citi bank card! I will NEVER use citi bank anymore or attempt to use their services!!!!

Answer
I had no problems charging 20,000.00 USD in one shot.

Anybody knows how it works with the "Free car rental and hotel upgrades" benefit that comes with the Continental Airlines Visa Signature Card?
The doc that the bank sent you is not very helpful.

I have the Hilton Visa Signature card, but I think the upgrades should work the same way since both are Visa cards. I know the car rental upgrades are through Avis and Thrifty, but I forgot about the hotel upgrades.
It's all here:

Answer
Visa Infinite Cards (the newest level; above Signature) give much higher revolving credit limits; usually at least 40K.

Answer
WhiteAmex
I'm sure I have seen the Infinite Card around for a while, are you saying it has a preset spending limit? What do you like better about it? Thanks

Answer
The Infinite Card has no preset spending limit, a better points and rewards system with a choice of cash back, and a very low apr of approx 7%.

Does Citibank offer an Infinite card? If not, who does?

Answer

I read that you just received a Infinite Card. If you did, what bank issued it?

Answer

I fully charged my last vehicle and the dealer did not even blink when I took out the credit card. They did not increase the price of the car either once they learned I was going to charge it. Got the car at a very good price.
I guess it depends on how hungry they are to sell cars.

If they'll take a credit card on a car, you're probably paying 2% too much.

With that logic you are probably paying 2% too much for anything you charge, right?

Answer
In theory, yes. But some businesses aren't open to negotiation as much as automobiles. And MC/Visa have strongly enforced the "same price cash/credit" policy, so a lot of people have forgotten about cash discounts.
In any event, csah discounts are only useful on large purchases. I'm not going to try to save 2% on a $20 restaurant meal. But on a 10-20k purchase I would. Thing to do is get the lowest price you can, without disclosing your method of payment. Then try to pay with your credit card at the last minute.

Answer
My UA Visa is a Visa Signature and the credit limit is > $45k. I've never asked for a high limit or an increase. So I haven't had a chance to test this yet on my personal card.
I have tested the no pre-set limit on a small business Amex, though... credit limit at the time was 90k and I ran up a bill of $150k. Two big charges hit at the same time. They called and politely requested that I pay the amount over the limit, which I did... but there was no glitch in the transactions being approved.

Answer
My Citibank Hilton Visa Signature card has a very humble $5,000 revolving limit. Was told be4 that I could charge up to a bit over $6,000 when I just got that card. Now I have additional $5,000 credit line on top of $5,000 revolving line. I never charged big items on it though and never charge much on this card either.
