Question
My NW Visa is up for renewal. I called to see if they would give me any points for renewing. They wouldn't. Has anybody been able to get any points this way?

Have never been able to get miles for renewal of a card. I have started rotating cards between myself and my wife every year or two so we get the sign up bonus.

Diner's Club (not a Visa/Mastercard!) is the only one I'm aware of that regularly offers renewal bonus points (typically so many points each month if you spend at least so much each month). I've not heard of it from any Visa/MC. One thing to consider: Diner's Club SIGNUP is also keyed to monthly spending, but the typical Visa/MC affinity card is only tied to one purchase. A card makes signficantly more money if they force you to spend a certain amount of money than if they let you make one 10-cent purchase a year. I thus don't see why it would be in the interest of a Visa/MC to give you lots of points for spending just 10 cents a year. But OTOH they don't want to seem to want to complicate things by changing from the one purchase model of awarding points to something like minimum purchase amounts...
As for rotating Visa/MC cards, some are getting smarter about that too, in that I'm starting to see some language that you only get some of your points on your 13th month of using your card (by which time, of course, you've had to pay the second year's annual fee).
