Citibank Visa Becomes Citibank MasterCard

Question
Presto! Citigroup changed my 16-year-old AA Visa card to MasterCard. Why?

Answer
There are many threads on this. Long story short, Visa and Citibank got in a dispute over putting the visa logo at the back of the card (which visa objected).
So Citibank went mastercard, all the way.

Answer
I still have the Citibank AA Visa and the Citibank Mastercard. Are they going to cancel one when renewal is due???

Answer
I dont mind the change... I have too many Visas and too few Mastercards anyway... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

They've been trying to switch people over for some time. You may be able to call them and tell them to put you on a no-switch list.

I know this sounds greedy, but if they really want to get rid of the Visa cards, might they offer me miles to give it up and just keep the mastercard?

Answer
I tried to get miles to "let" them switch me from visa to the mastercard product several months ago... no dice. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
Just received my renewed Visa card....no mention of trying to move me to the mastercard. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Answer
The switch caused problems with the Citibank one-time-use Virtual Account Numbers that I generate and use for online shopping.
Several weeks before the new MC arrived, I could no longer generate one-time Visa numbers and had to re-register for this service and download the app again. I was then able to generate one-time MC numbers that would verify online when completing an order, but would bounce back as non-valid several hours or days later. This happened numerous times and was becoming frustrating.
A call to Citibank revealed the new one-time MC numbers weren't clearing because I hadn't yet received the new MC plastic they had recently sent. As soon as I received the new plastic and activated it, all would fine. (Nice of them to warn me about these potential glitches.)
The customer service rep claimed I had received a notice about the switch that offered the option to keep the old Visa card. (I never saw this letter.) But since I didn't respond, I was sent the MC.
A called another service rep later and was told the opposite - that the switch was automatic. But, if I truly didn't like all the wonderful new features of the MC, I could ask to switch back to Visa, but with a new Visa account number.
