Question
I am think about to switch to some kind of cash back card. Chase Freedom looks good, but don't think they are accepting any new application. so, what is your favorite cash back card?
Answer
That's a good question. I currently have Citi Divident. The big disadvatage - you must spend $10k before they send you $100 check (1%).
Is there VISA/MC that earns more than 1% on certain occasions/promotions? I know AmEx Blue Cash Back does but... let's just say I don't like Amex.
Answer
I would recommend the Chase StockBack mastercard.
1% for every purchase.
10% Back at iDine restaurants
%4 for retail store GiftCard purchases
upto 10% for online purchases.
I've used it for 6 months, and like it.

Answer
The best "cash rebate" Visa/MC is Principal Bank Platinum VISA (although I don't have it). There's a flat 1.25% rebate on all purchase.
Another good CC worth mentioning is Citibank Shell MC (which I don't have neither). 5% rebate on Shell gasoline and 1% on everything else. Gasoline credit will be awarded at the end of each billing cycle.
Personally I have the Cash Rebate AmEx, Chase Freedom MC, and the Citibank Dividend Platinum MC. I will cancel the Citibank's card after the initial 0% BT offer expires.
I really like the Cash Rebate AmEx (now replaced by the Blue Cash AmEx). But you really need to know the rule to play their game. It's not for everyone.
Answer
First of all, you can still get the freedom card, but it's difficult to find them on the net, so call 800-545-0464. A big advantage of this one is a 6%, yes six percent rebate on all gasoline purchases for 90 days after you get the card !!!!
Depending on the amount you spend, the MBNA World Card is great, because for 15,000 points, you get a rental car for a week.800-250-6628. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Answer
here are more info on the chase freedom gas rebate card:
No annual fee
3% cashback on all gasoline purchases
1% rebate on all other purchases
6% rebate on all gasoline purchases for the first 90 days
0% Balance Transfer Intro APR (9 months)
What I use for gasoline purchase is Delta Skymiles card from american express. They have always double miles on gasoline purchase. Since 1 mile is worth around 1.5cents, essentially, it's about 3% back on gasoline purchase too.

Answer
based on my research, the Freedom is the best for now. thanks for the info, I may call chase to apply this card or I may just keep my citi card. I used to be a chase customer. But I really do not like chase's customer service, and their online payment system is the worest.

Answer
How about the Motley Fool Platinum Visa card offered by MBNA? It too has a 1% cash back, no annual fee and as is true for all MBNA cards, it is the best card to use overseas.

I couldn't find this card on MBNA's website, but, was able to call MBNA and swap my B&N card for this one.
The reason I like this better than Chase Freedom card is that you can use the MBNA ShopSafe feature with this card to generate one-time-use CC numbers for online shopping.

Straight 1% just isn't good enough anymore.

That's a very constructive statement, wasn't that?
What's your point? Some people spend $500 on cards each month for a totoal of $6000 a year. Why spend annual fee or go with a tier rebate of a low rate below $5000?

I'm with your point. IMHO, 1% cash rebate isn't a bad deal given small spenders like me would prefer to get straight 1% cash rebate whenever as little as $20 or $25 is accumulated.
BankOne/First USA has a Free Cash Rewards Card. One can redeem points for cash (2,500 pts = $25) or redeem for goods/certificates on a 1:1 basis. Better yet, 0% for 6 months, 1,000 bonus points for the first purchase now, and 9.9%. Purchases and interest earn you points.
http://www.bankone.com/
Although some FTers don't like First USA, I personally haven't had big problems with them in the past 3 years.
The hay days for miles are gone and the hotel points are deteoriating and devaluing. I'm going back for cash bonus since I don't stay at hotels much either.
Btw, you can trade in for this card if you have other F USA cards or Bank One cards.

if you're an AAA member, this isn't a cash back card, but its got no annual fee, and you get a 30.00 rebate for a limited time, 5% back on all gas purchases, regardless of brand, and from what my parents tell me, the transaction charges when traveling to foreign countries is lower...for every 5000 points earned ($5k) you get a 50.00 gift certificate to AAA (which can be used for anything, including travel services...if you have them book the same flight/options you found on the web or where ever, that's 50 bucks off a mileage earning flight...)

although the link is for AAA-Mid Atlantic (d.c. area) i doubt it applies just to mid-atlantic members.
<edited to add the following http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cool.gif
you also get 1% back on any AAA travel-related purchases

I am very satisfied with my Farm Bureau Bank (http://www.farmbureaubank.com) Visa card. Alas, it is also at 1%, but is great for overseas charges. They have no fee and absorb Visa 1% fee.

Just a claarification on the AAA card. It offers 5% cash back on gas purchases that are made at the PUMP ONLY. However, the rebate applies to gasoline purchases made at the pumps worldwide. Yet, the did provide a disclaimer that only gas stations accepting a certain four digit code, whatever that is, will net you the five percent rebate. I interpret this as even though the claim is 5% of gas made at the pump is rebated, not all gas stations with pump purchase will give you a rebate. This has happened once to me.
Still, it is a good card, considering there is no annual fee and the MBNA doesn't charge an additional percentage surcharge for foreing currency transactions.
Answer
Here in Spain, there is the Citibank Classic Plus Card. 1% cash-back on all purchases automatically applied to your statement every month. No minimum spend - no maximum rebate and you get the discount every month.

1% no annual fee (the 1% is not chash back but held by Upromise for your Kidz ;-) education)
http://www.citibank.com/us/cards/cardserv/upromise/index.htm
http://www.upromise.com/
I only heard about this recently and I haven't had a chance to decide if to switch to it or not.
Family and friends can pitch in, too: (Bottom left corner of page):
http://www.citibank.com/us/cards/cardserv/upromise/rewards.htm
Sounds cool to me.
If someone has upromise and/or this citibank card, please post some feed back.
Also if anyone knows how the redemption towards education works please let us know. (Could one use the money towards a kid's High School or K12 education?
What happens if ones kids don't go to college or if someone dosen't have kids, will the person be able to get the money for some other use or will it be lost?
Could one use the money towards any school or only participating schools?
How about schools in another country?)
(Sumary for those who don't like clicking:
Upromise is some sort of company that holds money back from purchases at participating parterns towards your kids education.
One of the partners is Citibankcards, they have a card that will give 1% on all purchases to your account at Upromise, and if what you are purchasing is from a partner that gives a % to Upromise you'd get that from them as well.)
Answer
Isn't the UPromise card are same as the Citi Dividend card? The only difference is the Dividend card give you cash and you have to wait until you spend 10k, but UPromise give you upromise dollars every month. So shames the Citi Dividend as a better one.

Tomcat is right without quite conveying why, here:
http://personal.fidelity.com/products/checking/content/mcplatplus.shtml#college
Fidelity Investments 529 College Rewards Card, 2% percent flat cash back credit card issued my MBNA.
In order to have it, you've got to open 529 College Savings plan, all rebates go in there. If someone in your family is college-bound, jump in.
The plan (not card) has $30 annual fee, which can be waived with $50 monthly direct deposit.

The following is from their terms and conditions:
"Point transfers from MBNA occur at the end of each calendar quarter: Minimum of 50 points required to effect transfer to the Account. Currently, a transfer of 50 Fidelity 529 Dollars yields the equivalent of a $50 contribution to the account."
What happens if I don't accumulate the 50 points (which requires $2500 charged) Do I lose the credit which has been accumulated in that quarter? or will it count to towards the next quarter?
