AAdvantage Mastercard Offer

Question
I don't get it!
My husband got this offer from citibank AAdvantage MC in the mail today:
Sign up for Gold AAdvantage card and get
3000 miles
Free companion ticket
upto 10,000 miles on balance transfers-1 dollar per mile-at 9.9% until 4/03
$50.00 annual fee
I just got my AAdvantage card with none of the above bonuses-and a $60.00 annual fee.
I would really have liked the balance transfer miles!

Answer
I think the standard deal that you can find anywhere is 5000 miles for $50. You screwed up http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Answer
The old offer was better 10,000 miles.

When I applied, they sent me an offer for 2,500 miles plus a free "companion ticket." I got neither. After I complained a couple of times they credited me with 5,000 miles. Then a couple of months later I got the companion ticket too.
10,000 miles for sign-up sounds really good too. I'm waiting for a "double miles" offer, but am not hopeful.

Answer
Huh...same problem here.
Our offers came 2 days apart last week.
He was offered a 5k signup bonus - for me, just a measly 3k
He got the FF miles for transfers, none for me
He got the 1st year waived, not me
We both were offered the free companion ticket
there were a few other differences I can't remember...
I think they're biased against women (since I do most of the traveling in our household)!!

Answer
Some of it has to do with your current AA Miles account balance. My wife has over 40K miles and was offered 3K on the same day I was offered 8K to go with my 17K mile account.
"so accept our 8,000 bonus miles offer and you'll have enough miles for an award certificate!"

Answer
I just cancelled my Citibank AAdvantage Mastercard. It was time for the $50 annual renewal. The best offer I got was 3000 miles or a "completely-free cashback card." I countered with 10,000 miles, but the rep would not go for it.
Actually, the card was put into a "hold status for a year," which means that it can be re-opened with some small effort.
Other options include continuing to use my Delta Amex card and applying for one of the new-customer bonuses posted above.

I got a screwy Citibank AA MasterCard offer in the mail the other day. They gave me this book of coupons to give my friends. For each friend that opens a Citibank AA MasterCard I get 2,500 bonus miles (up to four bonuses), and my friend gets a semi-worthless two-for-one companion ticket.
Problem is, if my friend applies without my referral, they can easily get both (the companion ticket and 2,500 miles) or 5,000 bonus miles. So I don't see anything extra here for referring a friend, as it's just splitting the sign-up bonuses between us.
Maybe they're suggesting I refer people who aren't my friends, because after any friends of mine find out I duped them, they sure wouldn't be a friend any more.

Answer
Just cancel your current card and re-apply with the new offer so that you get the bonus and goodies. As long as you don't do it too often, there's no real harm to your credit.

Answer
Can somone tell me what the companion coupon entails - are there lots of restrictions?
thx.

Answer
I believe the Companion certificate is valid only with a minimum airfare, and only on Tuesdays during Lent.

This is the same phone number I reported on a month or so ago, so I guess their 8000 bonus mile promotion continues. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/starsmilie.gif

Answer
Both my wife and I each separately got an offer of 10,000 miles recently. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Answer
I got 10K and a (worthless) companion certificate. Had to pay the annual fee from day one, though. No way to get the 10K for free...

I wonder whether they do that so they can claim you're not eligible for promotions aimed at "new" cardholders, since you're still technically a cardholder?
To put it another way, I wonder if you'd be eligible for the 8,000 mile "bonus" if you called that number and applied for a new card, or would they deny the bonus on the grounds of the "dormant" card?

Answer
Counsellor, you're correct. If you call before the hold period is out, you'll have your old account reactivated, and no bonus. At least that's the way citibank worked a couple of years ago. IIRC, the hold period was more like 3 months back then, though.

Can you give us more info? (Like a phone number of offer code). I'd like to sign up under a 10,000 bonus offer.

Answer
The 10,000 mile offer is definitely gone.
But the 8,000 mile offer is still good if you apply via the phone number listed above.
Just used it.

Answer
I received a 10,000 mile sign-up offer which expired on January 15, 2003. Then I received a 5,000 mile sign-up offer. I had to call around and be transferred to various numbers, but I told them (on January 31) that I had lost the original offer and just now found it (which was true). They looked up the offer using my name and address. There was no 800 number on the front or back of the form. Everytime I called the Citibank applications department, they told me the only offer out there was the 5,000 mile offer. Be persistent and you'll get the right number. I believe the American AAdvantage C.S. department gave me the number which was successful. So if any of you have an expired offer, try it anyway. Couldn't hurt, might help.
