What has been your experience in scoring bonus miles for renewing with Citi AAdvantage cards? Spouse received offer for 3000 bonus miles to initially enroll, so we have an option, but preference would be to renew existing card and score bonus miles. Has it been done? What latitude do reps have? Has anyone actually cancelled a card and then received an offer to renew with bonus?

Last week I got an offer of either a free companion gift certificate (provided I buy a tix over $360) or $25 off the $50 annual fee.
They said I was eligble for this b/c I spent over $40,000 in a year.
They sent me the cert.....I STILL cancelled.

I'm about 2 months away from making my AA renewal decision. Even a little teaser like 3000 miles would probably convince me to pony up the $50.
Otherwise, I'm probably going to cancel for the simple reason that I can effectively continue to earn 1 AA mile/dollar through my Marriott Rewards Visa based on my current MR level (about 6 months' worth of earning away from the major 100,000 FF mile award).
