What is the best Visa/MC with no fee now?

Question
Last year I signed up for the Marriott and Hilton Visa cards that has first year fee free. Now the time is up and I want to know what other cards out there don't charge annual fees (at least in the first year) and get some type of points?
I don't use Visa much. About $500/ month so I don't think the annual fee is worth it.

Answer
There are lots of Visa/MC rewards cards out there now with no annual fee. What kind of card are you looking for (airline, cashback, hotel, merchandise) ?

Answer
Hmm...I was under the impression that the Hilton HHonors/Citibank USA Visa has no annual fee:

The T&C show no annual fee either:

I've been tempted to get it, since it's one of the few no-fee Visa Signature cards.
The MBNA Amtrak MC also has no fee, transfers to most airline FF programs, and has gotten good reviews (although you're tying your fortunes/points up with Amtrak!).

Answer
I have the MBNA Amtrak card and I think it's the only Visa/MC that will let you convert your points to airline miles at a 1:1 ratio for no annual fee. The catch is that the points expire after 3 years if you don't book a trip and you can only transfer in increments of 5,000 points.
I like my Starwood card better. Although it has an annual fee of $30, the points never expire as long as you use the card at least once a year, you can redeem at 1:1 for many airlines with a minimum of 2,500 points, and you get a 5,000 point bonus for transferring 20,000 points. Of course, BVG is just icing on the cake!!!

Answer
I think one of the best no fee cards is the AAdvantage Platinum World Mastercard you get through Citibank (if you have a CitiGold account relationship).

Answer
US Bank's Northwest card and First USA United card offer a FREE card where you get 1/2 point for every $1 of purchase.

Only $500?? You need to pick up the tab more often...

There was a long discussion on MilesBuzz recently on different ways to use the Visa.
I consider the Alaska Plantinum Visa essentially no fee. Yes, it costs $75/year, but it comes with a $50 annual companion fare on AS that is worth the cost of the Visa. All that means is one California vacation per year.

Amtrak points can be transferred to just 3 airline FF programs: United, Continental, and Midwest Express (all at 1:1 ratio, in 5,000 points chunks), plus 1 hotel program - Hilton (10,000 HH points for 5,000 Amtrak points).

If you want Cash rebate...Farmbureau bank is not bad but you have to spend alot...the best would be Citi's Dividend Cash rebate card...it's a real 1% rebate unlike other cards where you have to spend to a certain level to get the % rebates...

Answer
The Chase Stockback Platinum card is also good for cashback:
Full 1% back on all purchases
Can get additional cashback with some merchants (up to 10%)
I switched over to this card after reading all the glowing reviews on other forums.
You can keep your reward as cash or choose to invest it in a mutual fund. You can withdraw the funds at any time and can switch between the two options. I think this is a much better cashback card than my Discover Platinum card which I'm still keeping for purchases at Sam's Club.

I was aware of this, but I think it's just more convenient to use Discover at Sam's Club.

Answer
I have a no fee Juniper Visa with 6 months interest free, and up to 2% cash rebate (2% after 10K purchase). So I bought 10K savings bonds and enjoy the interest free period, and everything else I charge I get 2% in cash.

Answer
poker can you direct me to a link that describes the Juniper's CC?
Also, i'm wondering how is Chase these days? I have had huge problems with them before...and that's one of the reason that i try not to do business with them. Having said that...the Stockback Cash Rebate sounds like a really good deal...

I just got my Norwegian Cruise Line MasterCard yesterday. It doesn't give me frequent flyer miles, but I will get 3% back as credit on future cruises with NCL. The payback is better than a 1 mile per dollar on most airline cards. Besides, NCL doesn't charge a fee.
For more information, call 1-866-438-6262, Use priority code P6WO for 25 bonus points with first purchase.

Answer
Natasha while 3% looks great...is it a full 3%? FOr some reason i can't find this card on the internet...
Also...with some of the great rebates Chase's Stockback card is offering...can't you use the cash you earned and use it on anything say a cruise? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Answer
My top picks are as follows:
1) AmEx Starwood Card
2) Amtrak Mastercard
3) Amoco Visa (Full 2% rebate on non-fuel purchases and 3% on Amoco purchases. The rebates are redeemed for Amoco fuel purchases.)
4) Hilton Visa

Answer
Amex announced a cash back card with 0% interest for 6 months, and up to about 3.5% cash back if you carry a balance (which is good if it counts the months with 0% interest). No annual fee -
See the Amex board for more details.

Answer
I agree with TTT103's top two ratings:
1. Starwood Amex
2. Amtrak Rewards Mastercard
