RBC's AVION vs Gold Visa??

Question
I have both cards, but the Gold Visa comes with my VIP service, and the Avion Visa is a business account. Can I switch my VIP choice away from the Gold Visa (which just gives us overpriced merchandise, 99% of which I do not want)???
Would appreciate hearing from others over the RBC Visa cards, and experiences.

Answer
I think you should post this on the Air Canada forum since many Canadian FTers don't frequent this area.

Hello 100,000miler.
If I were you, I would give up your overpriced VIP service package offered by RBC Royal Bank. I am quite happy with the no-fee President's Choice Financial (http://www.pcfinancial.ca) bank account. With the PC Financial bank account you pay no transaction fee for withdrawals at CIBC & Amicus Bank ABMs, electronic funds transfers, Interac Direct Payment purchases or cheques. You will pay a little for using other financial institution's ABMs, money orders and drafts, traveller's cheques instead of getting them free but most people don't use them frequently. With PC Financial you cannot deal with a teller or certify your cheques. You also earn PC points for opening up accoutns, shopping at selected Supermarkets and monthly by paying you bills over the internet.
I really like the no-fee President's Choice MasterCard. You earn 10 PC points per $1 spent. If you spend $15,000 you can get $600 in Sears Club certificates when convert your 150,000 PC points into 150,000 Petro-Points and agian into 15,000 Sears Club Points. ***Note this is a 4% reward.*** Where else can you get a 4% reward? and on a no-fee credit card?
You can be onto your $600 Sears Club Certificate reward within a few months (or less).

I too have the Royal Bank VIP account, and consider it to be excellent value, as I share it with my spouse. We both get all the benefits of the VIP account (I especially like not having to pay that 1.50 every time I use another banks ATM). AND we get an AVION card with secondary card for no fee. So, to answer your question, yes you can get an AVION card as a part of the VIP package. You can also choose the British Airways card, or the American Airlines card. I am considering switching to the BA card, as you get 5000 to sign up, and I tend to transfer all my avion points to BA anyway. Just pop into the bank, or give them a call and they will switch the card over for you!
